Topic: Video Starter Kit

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Greetings All,

Just thought I'd post this to show my first video setup. It's nothing elaborate and suits my needs as I will be connecting to a video matrix which will feed all the screens in the club.

The converter has VGA in/out as well as composite and s-video out. The VGA out is a pass through which you can use to show your extended desktop locally. It supports up to 1024x768 which is plenty for composite. When I used the VGA connection to a single 32" screen the video quality was more than adequate.

The whole lot came off of ebay and set me back just over £30 (just under $50USD) and all arrived within 3 days of ordering and all had free P&P.

I used the converter for the first time on Friday, although I had to use the VGA out to a single screen in the club, as my composite lead didn't arrive until Saturday.

The converter is USB powered and rather than using the last spare port on my laptop or having to cart around a powered USB hub I bought a USB charger/power unit. This one is a twin so gives my an extra port to charge/power something else. Maybe my mobile if I can aford to get FireText up and running...

Comments as always are welcome...

Cheers,

Roy

Give me a call, I might be able to help you there Roy.

@GadgetMan, thats a great find and thanks for sharing. Did you buy everything together or seprate, if together could you post a link to the seller?
Thanks

All seperate and all UK based unfornately, so would be much help to you over the pond I'm afraid. I put the US prices in just as a comparison.

However all the kit is pretty generic, hence the reason for the post. If you can get the equivelent in your location you should be good to go.

The Video Converter isn't even branded. The box just says "Video Converter" but looks identical to branded ones I have seen elsewhere. Even the manual has no details of a manufacturer...!!! Don't think I'll be making a warranty claim on this piece ... lol

same video converter I have used for video mixing and to display on multiple screens for karaoke and I love it.

Well guys, stage 2 of my video setup is now complete...

Thanks to ebay I now have an InFocus 2102. Cost me £100 ($145) and only has 249 hours on the lamp. I've already hooked it up to the VGA directly and I must say it looks great on my bare walls in my office.

I have a gig tomorrow and intend to try it out for real. I've borrowed an old school projector screen just to try it out.

Stage 3 will be the spandex screen which I already have ideas for.

Total outlay so far: £133 ($194).

Will keep you posted.

Cheers,

Roy
