Topic: Printing Out History - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I've made a tool which will automatically load your Virtual DJ history files and allow you to format the output however you like. The video preview has come out pretty bad so I'll add an explanation.

You choose the date of the history file you want to view and then it's displayed on the left. There's a textbox where you can enter formatting options, i.e. how you want the output to look, e.g. artist - title [bpm] key. You can change this completely in realtime and the preview is shown on the right. Once it's done you can export it to an html file.

Before I upload it, what features do people need? Would you rather just have a normal print option rather than a webpage option? Currently supported options:

artist, title, length, key, camelot, genre, year, exact time played (e.g. 23:09), relative time played (e.g. 60:24), bpm, filepath

I get that too.

I think you have got everything there mate

Oops, fixed the permissions.

Can't see anything to do with youtube in that first post.

A tool like this will be handy when the PRS visit to list what you're playing. Just get their email address and tell 'em to go and get a drink at the bar and you'll send the list of what you played by email :-) Lotsa Brownie points with PRS!!! :-)

It would be great to both have a webpage output and a print function.

When someone comes at the booth and ask for the playlist, you could just print it with 2 clicks.

And when you want to upload the playlist to the club's webpage, it's just a click, and the automated script that you have made would upload the playlist at your webpage...

NICE!

Looks very interesting for sure ;)

Somethin else to think about and I don't know how possible it would be to add would be the possibility to customize the pages, add header and footers.
This would be AWESOME to print Karaoke books.

Nice one andrew;)

At the moment the program cannot be run when Virtual DJ is running because Virtual DJ locks the database files. However, you've raised good points about being able to generate a printout upon request so I'll include a workaround (you can still copy locked files to a new location, e.g. a temporary location). The header and footer thing should be possible too, I'll look into some libraries, which format do you prefer doc or pdf?

Looks interesting, what if we added a signature pic? like a DJ's banner? pdf would probably be the best format since it is a web standard. can't wait to try this :P

Good job Andrew!

I'll add graphic importing and pdf output later. For now I need to know if there's any major problems people are having? I don't have my external drives or main machine to work with for a while but it should all be ok. I realise the HTML output looks very ugly right now, does anyone have suggestions how to pretty it up?

edit: Just to add, you can open it when Virtual DJ is already opened. Virtual DJ writes to the history files about half a minute after you've played a track so you can have accurate playlist information upto the last minute.

I get a "corrupt" error when I start the program

If you use Firefox, could you try opening the database in it please. If you get an "XML Parsing Error" then the database really is corrupt. Virtual DJ occasionally produces an illegal xml file, typically if a song has the character & in it. An ampersand should be stored internally & I've provided a new version which works around this issue: http://rapidshare.com/files/180579060/VirtualDJHistory.exe

Works the treat, WOW, hand the man a few extra stars !!!!!

Mate, this will personally make my life so much easier, THANK YOU!

Additional feature that would be nice;

The ability to browse to a history file; this would be nice so you can view the history in another profile, or indeed on another computer! :D

Great work mate...

Hehe thanks. I'll add the ability to browse for the tracklisting file in the next version, I left it out for now because I'm not sure the My Documents folder is accessible by other users. The thing I would like to refine most is the html layout, e.g. option to output as a table and a better layout.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did think of it but I never got around to making a helpfile for it (the flac application) although I think it's now in a mature enough state where I could submit it as is, I may add wma support first. With this one I want to at least make the html export more presentable and maybe add a pdf option before it's submitted. Hopefully there's no big problems with it now, I've only been able to guess at the cause of the two reported problems but maybe within the next week I'll be happy enough with it to submit it.
