Keith don’t you have a M1 Mac??

I know fxs are seriously lacking on that side but stems are flawless with it!

My wife gas the M1 imac and my son has the M1 Macbook air.

May try a test to see how good it is.

Thanks for the info

Huey, maybe I'm just unlucky.

Installed VDJ on the wife's M1, left everything at default as a clean install, loaded a 3 minute video file and it took 100 seconds to load the stem completely. That's insanely slow.

That was just real time, not saving the file as well.

Was VDJ set to use the GPU? You are getting less then 2X.

M2 should be about 15x, so in-between the M1 (10x) and M1 Pro (20x)

Have almost never used a Mac.. hopefully a Mac user will have a suggestion.

You are helping all who are looking to update their rigs..
by testing what seem to be great choices on paper.

Many thanks !

I just can't stand MacOS. Being a long term Windows user it's just impossible to navigate.

The new Macbooks will be out early next year and will be even faster.

I guess it depends how much use you will get from stems, and for me personally it's mimimal so don't even know why I'm bothering really .......

There are a few versions of the M1. I have the 14" m1 pro i just checked om my machine, a 4 minute 1080 video took 20 seconds to decode stems. The imac is an 8 core gpu vs the 14" macbook pro 16 core gpu. Either way 100 seconds seems insanely slow. My desktop i7 with rtx3060ti card was 1 second faster (19 seconds) decoding the same video.

Im not sure your price point , but this might be something windows based for you to look at although I dont know if the card is fast enough for you.

I guess I’ve never really paid attention to how long it takes to do a whole track.

From the time I have the track loaded to the time I press play it’s always been ready for me to use. I have never prepared any stems and just do everything on the fly.

I guess I’m not mixing whole tracks tho either so that could be the difference. It probably just comes down to our mixing styles.
