Topic: Question about headshells and tonearms

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am looking at investing in some shure m447 cartridges and don't know whether I should buy them on the technics headshells and whether the technics headshell will work in my current tonearm. Any help much appreciated.

you haven't said what decks you have... I know that technics, pioneer, vestax, stanton, American Audio, Citronic all use the same fitting, so as long as you have a standard headshell the m447 will fit, if you dont you just need to make sure there is 4 connecting knobs on the headshell that you can plug the m447 cables into.

If you get em, consider that $60 of the price is the headshell, if you can live without the technics logo I would just get the carts.

Your tonearm wont matter because the m447's include setting instructions for adjustments, but basically the best way for sound is with the groove, but who cares... the reason you buy m447's is to scratch, so set the needle inline with the pivot point of your tonearm, It'll chew through your groove quicker, but it will never skip.

dj shortee has a vid on youtube on how to setup your m447's, she uses 1210's but most tone arms have the same sort of setup.

also most tone arm fittings are universal

Just buy em with the headshells and make it easy on yourself, lol! Slap on the headshell, anti-skate on zero and tonearm height set at 3 1/2. For the counter weight, twist it all the way on then 3 or 4 turns back. Now slap on your record, scratch your ass off and rock the party!!

Good Luck

I have two American Dj turntables that have been sitting in my cupboard for ages and I now have time to get back into dj'n. I'll have to have a look at the tonearms to see if it has the four knobs in it, I can get the m447 mounted on technics headshells one for $99 Australian so am thinking I should go for it then if I have to use different headshells later do that.

i use American Audio hd 4.5's they are great for turntable trickery, and the m447's will fit perfectly. If you can get em for $100 just get those, I bought them at DMC in Melbourne and it was $140 with headshells... I think I got ripped off :)

Yeah man check out storedj. Com . Au and there Shure m447h which is the model with the headshell attached already are 99 bucks. Thanks for the help guys.
