Wouldnt it be good dont you think if an application could be developed on Windows Mobile and Apples Iphone to allow remote control picking of software and start/stop/fader control of both decks?

Short answer, no. VDJ is often accused of being a less than "professional" software. (Even though we have several big name DJs who do use VDJ http://www.virtualdj.com/djs/index.html) One of the other charges I often see leveled is, "too many tricks and toys related features". So, anything which would remove the DJ from his booth, in my humble opinion, is something to stay away from.

Please don't write your whole post as a title then restate it again ...
And as for your question - these type of apps are already being done by others. They pass MIDI commands when can then be used by VirtualDJ's SimpleMIDIMapper. Some here have been successful implementing them already with iPad Touch or iPhone devices.

Personally I believe that a Dj belongs behind his booth 99.9% of it's time. Period.

I am against anything that takes away from doing it hands on and gadgets that make people think bad about the software like T.E. says...

Do bear in mind DJing is not just clubs ..... in a bar / restaurant situation taking the music to the people can be a good selling point.
I have been using RDP/VNC to remotely DJ with both BPM Studio and VDJ since 2004 and it's great. Devices I have used are:
Philips Desxcape
Vaio U70
Vaio UX1
Apple ipad
It is great being able to get about the crowd and take requests. I have secured many gigs because of this ability over the years, and I still use remote functionality in my current club early doors. The only difference is that I am pressing a touchscreen rather than pushing a button on the controller.
Technology is there to be used. Some people use scratch, TC, Karaoke, controllers, video and the best thing about VDJ is that is so flexible.

A few weeks ago while having lunch at the Hard Rock in Los Angeles their "DJ/VJ" stopped by our table to take requests, he visited with us for about 10 minutes, very friendly gent.
He used a wireless touch screen device about the size of an iPad, only thicker, that he used to browse his library and cue tracks and videos. Wasn't a mixing interface but made him mobile. I can see the value of wireless devices in lounges and similar venues. I'm sure it's not really practicle for the club scene but could be useful at weddings and private events allowing the DJ to get out to the crowd. And the WOW factor with the patrons is always a plus. To each his own.
Besides, the only people that really care what the DJ is using are other DJ's.

i'd be interested to know what that device was ...
i agree with Keith and TD .....
the technology is there to be used .....
if you can talk to the crowd in person at the venue , and be 2 places at once , that is really
great for business .... face to face time with customers and potential customers is truly valuable
and important , not to mention fun .... i like fun

Before long they will expect you to go round the room taking request, pretty much what the Hard Rock guy was doing. Like a waiter!!
Only looser's will do this, I would rather quit.

But then some venues would benefit from this .... I worked in a busy city centre bar in Aberdeen a couple of years ago on Saturday nights, and being able to walk around and get requests from people made them come back, and stay longer.
I agree it's not appropriate for a club, but in some environments it really does work, and has done for me in many places since 2004.

Like I said I use a Wii Remote and heres why...........We do alot of hip-hop shows and not ever MC has a DJ, so I load up there tracks into the playlist area and hit automix and join the crowd. Well sometimes they want me to stop the track or they want me to skip to next next track. I can do all of this plus more from off the stage and I get to enjoy the show also.
Just my 2 cents

I think that we tend to find excuses in order to find uses for our new gadget toys!!! :P
The "technology" to take requests from your customers exists way before the dj technology itself. It's called "A pencil & a paper" :P
Anyway, if you seriously want to remote control VDJ or whatever on a computer via LAN you can do it with a VNC Server/Client from your WM Phone - iPhone, or even take a small netbook (they come out with touch screens too if you wish) and start fooling around...
As I said above I believe that a dj belongs to it's booth 99% of it's time, no matter if it's a club or not... You may don't realize it, but since computers are already capable of enough automation, dynamic mixing, auto-beat-match mixing e.t.c. by leaving the booth we (as dj's) are practically showing that we are not a necessity. Soon enough we could be replaced by a computer and a cocktail waitress that's taking song requests especially if we teach our "crowd" to listen music in a way like this.
Anyway, that was me bit...ing!
Over and out...

Phantondeejay,
You are a DJ that has good foresight, thank you for shearing your thought's, maybe now they will think twice about making it look so easy.
Remember, we are the last generation of DJ's, probably only about 20 years left as a job so let's make the most of it!! hopfully have the mortgage paid by then.

Your dance floor is packed, beautiful women dancing, you take your wireless mic and I phone and go to the middle of the craziness, announce the next song, start it and mix it,and as you head back a babe stops you and requests the next song..The energy you create by instantly playing a request, from the floor,is exactly what you want, take it to the next level, unchain yourself, move around,"connect" with your audience! When i switched to computer and video, all the cd guys were saying, that will just make you lazy!

hits your back, you press the wrong button on the tiny touch screen, music stops, iPod slips of your hands falls down and brakes apart, and you're running like crazy back to your booth to start the music again....
Aaaargh... It was almost the perfect dream before it becomes a nightmare... :P
Anyway, everyone is free to act as he wants to... No matter what I will always believe that a DJ is a DJ and belongs to his booth. A DJ is not an all-around entertainment guy... You can hire clowns for that... :P
Over!

Like is said, to each his own. I don't understand why Charlie and Phantom have to talk down to others that see this as a useful tool.
If you don't like it, don't use it. Your attitudes show how closed minded and insecure you guys are in your craft. I'm not a full time DJ, I do it for fun. And it's fun to interact with people at parties. If you guys don't want to kick it with the crowd, stay in the booth. No one has had anything to say negative about the way you gents prefer to run your shows.
