What setting do I need to set in order to have the BEAT SYNC active simultaneous to hitting the PLAY button? The way I'm set currently, I hit PLAY, and have to hit SYNC on my HERC immediately following PLAY (and often hitting my jog wheel by accident).
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you don't use the jog wheels then disable them. I had to do this to start with as I used to hit them by accident all the time. I still do it for a set in a club and just enable them if I'm going to use them then disable them again. You do this in the little MK sys tray icon (beside the clock)

In Virtual DJ one of the most overlooked features are MACRO shortcuts.
That means simply that you can asing more than one function to one shortcut.
So all you need to do is set up a keyboard shortcut/midi to do this on SAME key..
1) Sync
2) Play
The order of how you make macros are important, as it VDJ will do it in the order you add them
;)

OK I will try that. But I remember in a previous version of VDJ, when I hit SYNC before PLAY, the SYNC button would stay illuminated and be ready to SYNC as I hit PLAY. This is the best way of doing it, since we don't necessarilywant to SYNC every song we PLAY. So why create a macro or another keyboard shortcut to PLAY songs that we want to SYNC, while using the normal PLAY button for others???
Clearly, there should be one LOAD button, with the option of hitting SYNC prior to PLAY. Don't you agree?

Just map the PLAY button the be SYNC + PLAY ;)
And leave the Sync button as is (sync only)
You can add LOAD + SYNC + PLAY macro if you like ;)
Anything is possible

But then, it will try to SYNC every song I try to PLAY. If I want to simply PLAY a much slower BPM song that I do not want to SYNC, it will force the BPM to match the currently playing song, which I do want...

Yeah, you only have a limited amount of buttons on the hercules.
Maybe map the function to your keyboard ?
Or to a button you dont use at the Hercules, such as maybe the "seek buttons" or the triangle function for cue (3 buttons)?

Am I remembering correctly that you used to be able to hit the SYNC button before PLAY, and it would stay illuminated ready to SYNC as soon as the PLAY button was hit?

Not sure I understand...
Sure you can hit Sync on Hercules, then press play...
And Sync button is not steady lid, it follows the beat of the music
It will only stay lid, if you map it to BEATLOCK, whitch is close to sync, but locks the beat to eachother

When I say that the button stayed illuminated, I mean the SYNC button on VDJ skin - not on the HERC. But again, we would not want BEATLOCK if we are mixing into a non-beat matching song.
I'll check later, but I think that I remember there was a way to set it so when you hit SYNC before PLAY, and then hit PLAY... it will stay in SYNC.

I thought the sync just matches the bpm, of the other deck? What happens if you go to options, auto pitch matching, set to "disable". Disengage beat-lock, set to "on load"

SYNC forces the beats to line up, as well as matching the BPM. That's what I want, but only when I conciously select the SYNC button before PLAY (not every time I load a song). Currently, I hit SYNC before PLAY, and I have to hit SYNC again after PLAY.
You should be able to hit SYNC one time, before PLAY, and have it start that way.

So, you are having trouble mixing on your own, you want the software to line up the beats, and lock?
Posted Tue 26 Feb 08 @ 1:07 pm
Virtual DJ already does this. I'm just trying to make it less redundant.
But yes - I mix just fine on my own, as I have since the 80's. It's my guys I'm worried about...

The question was trying to ascertain what you were trying to do. I was not calling into question your mixing skills. I do not beat around the bush, I come out and say what I mean, you do not have to think about.
As you said, I thought VDJ locked on the beat, but have not tried it, so can't tell you how to use it. The feature was put in to help guys that have trouble mixing. I thought the option I gave you would help, since you said you did not want it to stay on. I do not use keyboard shortcuts, and have them disabled, so I can not try for you.

Oh sorry - I apologize for the misinterpretation.
Yes - VDJ locks on the beat. I am just trying to figure out how to lock it before hitting PLAY, on mixable songs only.

Hi eric, sorry if i dun understand what u trying to do. But to put it simply u could just pressed beatlock - b on the keyboard n then pressed play. The next track which on pause also will be in sync to the one that is playing unless u disable the beatlock..

I'm confused also. Is there a way to activate beatlock on the interface, Or DMC2, so I can try to see what this guy is talking about? I have my keyboard shortcuts disabled, so I don't make a mistake.

I think it's about the same as in this post:
