Topic: For Those Who Haven't Analyzed All Of Your Tracks

I discovered with my back up rig that tracks that haven't been analyzed take forever to load up and cue.

I would have to figure that if you are quickly loading and mixing tracks things would become unstable without the files being pre analyzed.

i wish atomix would add the info to the tag or to a file in the same folder as the mp3 (like bpm does with SCN files). that way, when the DJ moves the files around the HDD, the VDJ database doesnt have to rescan everything

You dont have to rescan the file if you move it around.
As long as the filename and size are the same (hence not been adding id tags from other software etc that can change size)

Yeah, but you still have to move the XML database file if you are using the same library on two systems.

For those that do not know, that is located under the C:\\Program Files\\VirtualDJ folder for default installations. The file name is "VirtualDJ Database.xml".

TIP : [For users with external usb/Fireware drives]

You can install Virtual dj in that drive, this way the database
and program files will be always there.
(In case you forgot to copy the database)

Can someone please explain the difference between the XTML database and the MP3 database?
It appears that the XTML has the same info except it looks to be coded also.
The MPs is the actual music; Correct?
Then what is the XTML? I thought it was so that you could export it into a database: such as excel.

xml not xtml :)

Your important file is the xml
It IS the database.

All the important infos about cues, bpm, gain, lenght, user comments etc, are in this file.
Also Filenames and filesize,.... BUT NOT the path of your music files.

Filenames and absolute paths are stored to the mp3database.txt
Its usage is only for the search function.
But you can delete it and recreate it at any time
in a few minutes. (scan HD)
You dont loose any important information.

Example you can totally change the paths, moving your
music files, and re-organize them with windows explorer (outside vdj)
The only you have to do then is to give vdj 1-2 minutes to rescan your drive, and update the mp3database.txt
for the search function.

Very very clever...

This kind of functionality is one of the main reasons i choose
Virtual dj, (because i move my files often.)

IDEA: why not store the vdj database on the root of the drive itself? then if DJ has multiple drives (removable or even CD/DVD) each media would have it's own database. Or maybe store it in the folders and maintain multiple databases?

on the local HDD
c:/program files/virtual DJ/VirtualDJ Database.xml

on a removable HDD or usb keychain
z:/techno/
z:/techno/VirtualDJ Database.xml
z:/techno/song1.mp3
z:/techno/song2.mp3
etc

on a a CDR/DVD-R
e:/VirtualDJ Database.xml
e:/song1.mp3
e:/song2.mp3
etc

The root of the drive may not be a great place for it. Unfortunately, VJD only lets you reference drives when searching. I put in a request for directory searching. Nothing has come of that yet. In lieu of that, you can mark a directory as a Favorite. That would be the best place to put the XML file.

Not everyone has separate drives for their libraries, so being able to SET the root to a specific folder would be a viable alternative.

This should be placed on the New Features forum.

Aposis,
So then the actual music is xml. And the mp3 database is just a text file of what music is on your drive.
So if database corrupt appears on the monitor; what it is reffering to is the MP3 database only. Therefore if you delete this file and re scan & everything will be okay.
The one that you should not mess with is the XML file as it is music itself. Is this correct?
Thanks

"database corrupt" error is for the xml file.
The txt file is used for search only, if it is missing (or it is empty) when you press search then vdj just ask to scan for audio files.
But the xml is needed when you start the program.

Actually, you can delete it and the program will recreate it the next time it loads up.
