So is my desktop, which has a faster processor, 3 internal hard drives, 1 optical drives, internal pro sound card, a better video card, and can change any of these in a heartbeat, if they fail. I have full use of all of my extremities, so I have no problem carrying a Small Form Factor Case. You will get all kinds of pros and cons, it's what works for you.

I agree with man and his music. If your going to be doing video, its best to build your self a SFF pc (shuttle makes some nice cases) In fact I just built a high end SFF for under a 1000 bucks and that is going with a 300. video card. Your able to get quicker speeds utilizing the SATA 2 (3.0gbs) ports on these computers. They dont take up much room, you dont need an external harddrive (so what if you have to cart along a monitor). I have 1 80gb drive for my OS, 2 (500gb drives) for audio and video. Using small wireless keyboard and mouse.

Now the only way you can come close to matching this with a laptop is buying one of the new Sony laptops that will set you back about 3500 us dollars. I thought about that option, but you know what 2500 is alot of money, so I built the SFF and really happy mixing video now, I dont have any hickups with my setup.

and the 600. dell laptop is not gonna do you no good mixing video.

Under $1000.00 dollars, how did you do that? I'm building a new system, and the power supply I'm looking at is $189.00. The bundle I'm looking at is $1271.00 w a E6700 Duo Core, and 2 gig of Crucial Ballistix ram, ASUS motherboard. Oh, and I carry two 17 inch monitors. I use to carry 6600 Cd's 3 years ago, so I'm not crying about my desktop.

Just used the clubs laptop to go to the TM Century's site, to see if they sent me a song. Found it, ripped it, while playing in the club right now. Can you do that with a lap top? Maybe.

Good Laptop video card=$$$

If I ever build the gaming rig I want, it's going to have a 8800gtx or gts for video. I won't bother to go sli, since that one card can kick some major butt alone.

2 gb for ram
I was looking at the 6600 dual core processor:

Even though I have other stuff that I need to buy first.

If you want a laptop to have the same speed + heat, you are going to be spending alot of money.

The picture also shows you the size when set next to your gear.

You can use the built in soundcard on this computer, dolby digital 7.1
However as you can see I stuck with my Motu Ultralite (also if you look in background you will see my Serato box collecting dust)

I ran into all kinds of problems on my laptop. I just finished moving everything to my Vaio desktop today and done about two hours worth of mixing on it, at half the RAM I only have one problem which I think may be related to my needles (static when I lift the needle off of the TCV), but there were zero drop outs or glitches, and had perfect TCV responsiveness. I'm only mad at myself for not switching sooner. Of course, the problems on the laptop were because of IRQ sharing, but that seems to be alot more common on laptops than desktops for some reason (judging by the number of laptop users vs. desktop users I read on other sites concerning IRQ sharing). I've determined that until I can afford a Mac Book Pro, my DJ'ing on a laptop days are over;^]

mainedj> Thanks........The things you dont see are my QSC Speakers 2 of these http://www.qscaudio.com/products/speakers/hpr/hpr152i.htm
and 1 of these
http://www.qscaudio.com/products/speakers/hpr/hpr151i.htm

also my High Def Projector and Screen, and my Lighting Truss. I only have so much room in my basement....The main thing was to show that the SFF (Small Form Factor PC) doesnt take up much room. Usally when I am doing a gig, The pc sits under the table with the table dress covering everyting up underneath.

I prefer my HP desktop. I was going to build one, but for $620, after rebates, I got the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4600+
2GB RAM
250GB SATA HD
15" Monitor
DVD Lightscribe burner,
6 USB 2.0 ports and 2 firewire ports
9 in 1 media reader

I then purchased an ATI X1600 pro pci-e video card with 512MB RAM. I got THAT for $99 after rebates. Sweet!!
