Topic: TAKE A LOOK! Use a keyboardless TABLET for VDJ/Virtual Vinyl...

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I ALWAYS envisioned this when I was a FS user, and hoped for it when I thought that I was gonna switch to SSL, but now it's actually (almost) here and we may be able to use it for VirtualDJ and/or Virtual Vinyl!

It's called the "ModBook" and is being introduced next Tuesday January 9th. [invitation-only press showcase at 11:30am PST - general public showcase at 2:30pm PST]

Take a look:

The only question now is whether it meets the processing system requirements for VDJ / VV, and whether it has a dedicated graphics card (hopefully it doesn't use integrated graphics) with video output capabilities. DVI would be GREAT, but I'll take VGA, S-video, or even just RCA video composite as long as I have somekind of video output.

This may get really intersting for those of us who would like a more flexible form factor than notebooks or current tablet notebooks offer. I don't care too much for leaning over my dj equipment or stepping off to the side to use a keyboard and trackpad or mouse.

I say, LOSE THE PHYSICAL KEYBOARD and give us a virtual on-screen keyboard like PDA's! Drag and drop you're songs onto your VDJ decks with a stylus or just your finger. Just imagine your notebook screen [a little thicker and heavier, but a LOT thinner and lighter than current tablet pc's], nothing else, and holding it like a clipboard. Use your other hand for input. I think it'll be about the size of a 13" widescreen notebook's LCD [mybe 9"x12" clipboard sized].

I can see it now! No notebooks. No desktops. No minitowers. NO KEYBOARDS!

"Engineered in the U.S. by a renowned team of German and American designers, the ModBook's condensed form factor and integrated pen-based user experience makes it the ultimate solution for applications and situations where a keyboard only gets in the way."

I'm DYING to see if I can use this with VDJ and/or Virtual Vinyl for Mac! =)

I'll report about it from MacWorld next week!

I, ConQuest, see that I have been branded with a new nickname... DAMN YOU MODS!!! =P

;)

Seriously, I've posted SO many long threads on Mac vs. windows throughout these forums that I've almost gotten banned by microsoft apologists... I mean... "windows users". =P

I'll just post some links to some of the more recent threads where I've covered this topic, but otherwise, please just search the forums.

OR you can ask dj-in-norway why he publicly stated last week that his next computer is going to be a MacBook Pro. I think he is somewhat respected here at Atomix and on these forums. ;)

Here's a couple to start you off paulettecerra: =)

Check out:

- the 2nd page in this thread - http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/62570/General_Discussion/The_DOMINATION_begins__MWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA___.html?page=1

- and my 5th post on page 1 of this thread - http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/62685/General_Discussion/We_re_coming_for_you__Scotland___Paris___.html

There's a LOT more info that I've posted throughout the forums, so again, please search paulettecerra... and in advance, "WELCOME TO MAC", switcher. ;)

A supposed graphic displaying the assembly of this keyboardless , slate style, tablet Mac, the "ModBook":

At this point, this seems to be a modification that can be made to MacBooks, but I don't know about MacBook Pros. However, I don't see why MBP's wouldn't be able to have this done to them unless the manufacturer [Other World Computing] just doesn't want to support their larger 15" size and will only deal wit the the 13" MacBooks.

If this can be done to a MBP, I'm doing it. So now I'm hoping for a "ModBook Pro", because then I'll have the dedicated graphics card with video output capabilities to use VDJ & Virtual Vinyl's video mixing feature!

The real obstacle for this company not offering a ModBook Pro option, wouldn't really be size [MBP's are slightly thinner than MacBooks and are less than 1.75 inches wider] but rather weight. The 15" MBP is less than 1/2 a pound heavier. That's nothing!

We'll find out on Tueday for sure though.
