Topic: Vdj magic? [crash SOLVED => bad mp3]

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I just took a break for studies and decided to mess around for a bit with vdj – I was mixing using just mouse and keyboard(no vinyl control or special effects) for about 30 mins - I dragged a song to the deck and vdj just disappeared from the screen without any error messages. Running a Celeron p2.5 w/512megs and vdj 4.1. Maybe vdj was trying to tell me to get back to my studies but – that was just a weird crash – just needed to report that...

Yeah every program crashes.. but the point was, it just disappeared...it didn't have the smiley face box that says fatal error etc... I won't blame the os on this one though...I got my windows trouble free.

@xgl_dj

Thank for the report. Certainly a corrupted file. See my private message.

@All users

if you find a file which can do the same thing ONLY on VirtualDJ v4.1 r2 (=closing the software without crashguard), write it here as you can help.

Will do. I have under 60 files on that pc so I'll check it out - and do what your pm requires. Also I am still using 4.1 not 4.1r2 - so I guess I'll update after I find which file is causing the problem.

After some testing, it appears the problem comes from the skin used by xgl_dj and it was not a corrupted file

The skin is : V4 D1 (1024x768)(1280x800) by phillydj

So be carefull !!!

I hope it will be corrected by phillydj or the dev staff

Thanks for the help of xgl_dj

Can you explain what kind of XML code made the software crash?

For the moment we don't know but we are investigating. The crash could be described like that:
* you have this skin
* you load a "specific" but not corrupted song

Now we have to find why with this song (and not others) and why with this skin.

So my advice is not to use these skins currently ;-)

Well it appears it's not the only skin to crash with this song so use the default skin until we give you the list of these skins or find a fix

Grrr after a lot of tests, guess what, the problem comes from the comment field in the ID3Tags of the track !!!!! It looks like empty whereas it was not the case.
