Topic: Any Word on Version 4? - Page: 3

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

You have to select you're posting in BB Code :)

There's another thread all about the BB Code . . .

And speaking of the release for 4.0 . . .
I love VDJ and 3.4 is great. I just hope that I get a chance to see and maybe use 4.0 before I have to stop DJing at the end of this summer. (I won't be able to DJ for a couple years because of other stuff I'll be doing. But don't worry, I'll be back!!) I can't wait to see what VDJ has done when I come back :-D

Okay. I've read through a lot of the threads and a ton of posts, and the best answers I've gotten so far on a MAC VERSION of VDJ 4 is a "probably", and a "if there is one, it'll be an annual snapshot of the windows version" meaning the windows version will be updated a lot more frequently while the Mac version will be updated once or twice a year.

I don't care if the Mac version will only be updated once or twice a year, as the obvious benefit of having a Mac version is not worrying about windows taking it's latest dump at the most in-opportune time.

All I want to know is if there will be a Mac version. I mean seriously, isn't the dev team far enough along to at least be able to confirm or deny this?!

We all know that Numark' Virtual Vinyl will have both Mac and windows versions, so if that software is basically VDJ, why the heck would there not be a Mac version of VDJ 4 as well?

Please someone, I am in a very difficult position right now. I am currently using a Hercules MK2 Console with VDJ console edition on a MacBook running windows xp sp2 using Boot Camp, and I absolutely HATE IT. I am going to return the Hercules MK2 but I need to know whether to buy VDJ 3 right now [and continue to use win xp] so that I can upgrade to VDJ 4 when it comes out IF there will be a Mac version, OR if I'm going to need to wait until July for Numark to release Virtual Vinyl and their Mac version

I'd really prefer to buy VDJ as I like the extra hardware control features that Virtual Vinyl won't have, since Numark is only focusing on TCV and TCCD users.

Please someone, advise me asap as I have to return this Hercules console this weekend before my return period ends.

Thanks all!

hey i just downloaded virtual dj trial but for some reason you no how it says how much days i have left well i downloaded this befor and i had 20 days of trial n then after those 20 days it went to 0 days n then i couldnt use it anymore n i have downloaded it again n for some reason it still says 0 days n i cant use it that long and i have delleted the other 1 fully.(does anyone no what the probleme is:|)

The trial period is limited to 20 days. It doesn't reset each time you reinstall the demo, or it wouldn't mean anything. If you want to continur using Virtual DJ, please buy it.

Conquest if u used up your 20days trial, and the erased your expired copy of the demo n then reinstalled it again it won't give u another 20 more days.your best is is to buy the software,by the way don't u have the djconsolemk2 version?why are u running the demo?another thing if u own the djconsolemk2 version of vdj n want to upgrade to vdj profesional edition,I believe u would get a discount.the internet special is woth every penny.when I got into vdj I first tried the 20 day trial, the I bought the pro edition, then I bought the djconsole,n how I own the mk2,all I need is the tcv n ill be all the way,and I don't regret spendin money on vdj.

Thanks for all that info cyes67r, unfortunately I'm NOT the user who posted that I had used up my 20 day trial version and thought that I could get around the expiration by re-installing the trial version again.

That was "anthorny - No license user" on the previous page in this thread [page 3].

I'm just the one who posted "lol!!!" a couple of posts ago because of Anthony's attempt to get around buying VDJ by endlessly re-installing the trial verion.

=)

I am a tryout DJ for a couple of Big clubs in Hollywood, I bought VDJ for it's Video features (that's why they gave me the chance to tryout, because I was the only DJ they know that mixed videos), it's a great vision, even when it crashes everytime that I used it (even overpassing the system requirements). I am in the same situation as Clay; I built this Monster Machine to handle the Video features and even when I get it to play in full hardware acceleration, the program can't handle the load of videos in my HD's and simply frezzes after about 45 minutes or an hour, if I disable the Hardware acceleration, it dosn't frezze, but it does make the videos to start jumping or skipping or simply crash for other reasons.

I would beg for one feature thou: That the database be able to handle about 2000 videos on my HDs without crashing. I don't know if it does have something to do with my RAID array, different video codecs or ripping technics.

I am a very pattient person and as long as the version 4.0 take care of this issues for me, I'll wait a little longer, but my future bosses are not very happy with the results and I hope the new version doesn't take long or they will not hire me permanentaly.

PS. VirtualDJ with any bugs or not, it is one hell of a program, there's no other program like it yet. It defeneatly made my dreams start coming true.

@neoob

It is a shame that you are having so much difficulty with video. Fortunately, I am not having the same issues. If you could list the machine specs, video codecs, ripping techniques, and any other variables, maybe we can help you. If it can work on my machine, why not yours? The program only loads one video at a time, so I don't see how the amount of videos you have, are affecting the performance of the software. I have four HDs with audio and video files, and don't have a problem. Maybe we can't help you, but it won't be because we didn't try.

Machine Specs:
Asus P5LD2 Motherboard
Pentium D 3.2 Ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
SATA RAID array (one array for OS and another array for storage of videos)
Shapphire RADEON 1900 XT 512MB
ESI Gigaport AG Sound Card

Video Codecs:
Pretty much the necessary codecs (I guess!)

Ripping Techniques:
Several, I use a program called DVD Ripper Wizard, the ripper that came with VDJ crashed on me everytime I insert any DVD that it's not from "Promo Only", I ripped videos with the "Raw Video" option which is faster but the results are bigger files, and "AVI" option which is REALLY SLOW and the videos are not as great quality as "raw video" (time it's important), I also download videos from the web, so pretty much there's a lot of different "kinds" of video formats and codecs for those. Another variable it's when I ripped an original DVD with "raw video" but sometimes (rather few to be honest) the resulting files are not playable with VDJ so what I do it's use a Dr Divx to convert the files to AVI with a good quality and smaller file.

That's some machine. What type of video card is that, on-board, Agp or PCIx? I have to ask, do you have all the latest drivers? I am not an expert, but that's a lot off different formats, and ripping techniques. Don't know if that has anything to do with your issues. When you say freeze, do you mean the video stops, but the sound continues to play? Or, the whole program stops? When you first start to play videos, do they play fine? In video configuration, do you have "decode while hidden" checked?

That's a PCI-E video card. When I say freeze, I mean the program itself, the video and audio keeps playing but the options on the database doesn't allow me to do anything, it's like the interface doesn't refresh or something. As I mentioned before, if I check decode while hidden I get a very good video quality but the program "freezes" if I unchek it, the videos skip or jump (have to mention that the audio play ok thou).

It just occur to me that may be something to do with the Skin (I am using a different skin than the original). I will try to run it with a different skin.

"As I mentioned before, if I check decode while hidden I get a very good video quality but the program "freezes" if I unchek it, the videos skip or jump (have to mention that the audio play ok thou)."

You did not mention this, you said "hardware acceleration". Are we taking about two separate things? What skin are you using? I do not use the default skin, so don't know if that is it.

neoob,

Sounds like you're having a frustrating time. As 'Man and his Music' says, this stuff is working for the majority of us. I, for one, have about 3000 videos and the are stored on a RAID 0 array and very rarely have any problems mixing videos several times per week.
I feel that VDJ is very stable for this purpose, and most of the problems that I have had occur due to factors external to VDJ. I therefore have learned to minimize the external dependencies and so hopefully the following guidelines can help you as well:

1) Do not use external codecs if possible. I use VOB (MPG2) files almost exclusively for video. This way, I can keep the .vob extension associated with VDJ's internal decoder. Using Windows Media codecs results in delayed video loading and also depends on another program to serve the video frames (ie DIVX, etc.) which can be problematic.

2) Use firewire for media storage if you use USB for audio. This shouldn't affect you because you are using SATA, but USB's bus management style is not conducive to real time audio data, especially when large chunks of file data are being transferred concurrently.

3) Don't drag the video window to your second display. This forces the video driver to work extra hard. Just choose the secondary display in the video output properties.

4) Don't 'full screen' your skin. This forces the video driver to switch modes everytime you access anything external to VDJ (file explorer, notepad, etc.) If you want the skin to fill your screen, then choose a skin that is the correct resolution for your display or resize one that is not (see the skins discussion board for more info on resizing.)

5) Don't modify your video driver properties for 'performance' over 'quality.' This seems counterintuitive, but think of it this way. The driver gets better performance by not performing, or by estimating, some of the video calculations. This can, and has, caused VDJ to crash because VDJ video engine depends on certain functions, which the video driver now doesn't perform.

6) Enable 'decode while hidden.' This will increase processing demands, but any system exceeding the minumum specs should be able to take advantage of this capability which will result in smoother and more responsive video output and transitions.

These are just the things I can think of off of the top of my head, and I hope this helps you.
If anyone else has a tip that might help neoob, then please add to this list.

Also, message to moderators: Perhaps we can get this tangent removed from this thread and placed into its own thread concerning neoob's problem?

I feel like Bart Simpson when he was asking Homer

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there Yet?

Every day I check on the Download at least 4 times to see if the new version is out. That page must get plenty of hits.

My guess is that July will be the month?

I guess it will be DECEMBER. :)

So if its before, surprise, better!

I'm not really th type to start roumous, but I'll make an exception: Version 4 will probably be out in October. I erm... have a source... (outside the VDJ community, but still fairly reliable to my knowledge.)

Actually DJ-IN-NORWAY gave us a hint that, if you bother to do the investigation, sheds some light on the whereabouts of the release...

hmmm... i would say... tomorrow? :D

come on guys put your dates here. we will see who will win ;) lol
