i think this is what you are asking....

you can record a dj session in mp3 format but not the video part. for that you can get a cheap dvd recorder and capture it all that way then rip it all back in via smartripper.

note the cheap dvd recorders are fine for keeping at home but often don't last long when moving them around to your gigs.

westwood4ever,
are you referring to recording sound only or recording the video with an external dvd recorder?
Recording mp3 is very simple:
- Click on the rec button at the middle of the screen (default skin)
- Select "Record file"
- Click "Config"
- Choose a proper filelocation and filename
- Select the location of the lame encoder dll (normally in the vdj program folder)
- Click "Start recording"

Buy a stand alone DVD recorder. Most come with hard drive's in them.

There's even such things that can record from any video source straight to MPEG-4 like the Neuros MPEG-4 Video Recorder-2. $149.99

The MPEG-4 Recorder is like an easy-to-use, free-standing VCR that records onto digital memory cards instead of VHS tapes so that the video is playable directly on the PSP™ , other handheld devices or ready for easy transfer to the new Video iPod™.

Instead of buying proprietary discs or downloading TV shows for a fee, you can now create open digital video files from all the content you already own. You can watch content whenever and wherever you want on your Sony PSP™, Video iPod™ or PDA.

The MPEG-4 files produced by the Recorder-2 can be played back directly on virtually any portable device accepting memory stick or CF memory cards.

You can also use the Recorder-2 to view recorded video on your TV by just plugging in to the Video-In connections on the TV and pressing ‘Play’. With your PSP™'s USB connection or an inexpensive USB adaptor/Card reader (not included), you can easily drag and drop content from the memory card onto your computer to play it on your laptop or home PC. The lightweight device fits in the palm of your hand, so you can easily take it on the road with you as your portable digital VCR.

Features:
- Record effortlessly from any video source (TV, Satellite Receiver Box, DVD players, VCR, Camcorders etc).
- Simple setup that works without a PC and operates like a VCR.
- MPEG-4 video format allows you to view content directly on your PSP™,Video iPod™ or any other device that accepts Memory Stick DUO/PRO DUO or Compact Flash (CF) memory cards (not included).

- A great way to digitise your home movies for archiving, emailing, or playback on portables and laptops.
- Can play back from Recorder 2 through TVs and home theatres. Pocket-sized device is small enough to use as a portable VCR.
- Three resolution Settings: VGA (640 x 480) for near-DVD quality playback on TV; QVGA (320 x 240) for high-compression playback on most handhelds like the Video iPod™ and Sony PSP™; and WQVGA (368 x 208) optimized for playback of wide screen movies on the Sony PSP™.
- Four recording quality settings: Superfine, Fine, Normal, and Economy.
- Uses Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) format for high-quality stereo sound.

I'm not really bothered about recording my Video set. But more interested in converting my DVD's ready to use with Virtual Dj. So the 3rd device seems like the best option.

I currently use #1 DVD ripper to make .avi 3ivX files for Virtual DJ. But #1 DVD ripper has a volume controll you have to set manually so for some video's it's too quiet and other's it's too loud and distorted.
