Topic: BPM Range for hip hop

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I just wanted to know how other VDJ users set their range for hiphop music since we all know the BPM engine is not very accurate. I've had to do all my songs manually. They range from 90-180. But I read somewhere else that hip hop ranges from around 60 -120. What do you guys think.

With a little practice, you will be able to ascertain what the correct bpm is, no matter what type of music. If you get a bpm of 180 for a hip-hop track, it is probably 90 bpm. It's pretty accurate for me, When it messes up, I either divide or multiply by 2, because I know pretty much, where it should be.

Yes, thats what I do. I use the Techno Beat and if it is over 130 I half it. There is no other way to do it. Its giving you the correct tempo as apose to the bpm.

well i think a true range for hip hop is 70-110 bpm but mostly 80-100, and more commonly in the lower 90's range

@Mantahoe: if you want to listen to 180 BPM songs to know what that tempo means, look for an artist (band) called "Atari Teenage Riot".
