When I delete or rename mp3 files in explorer, what does the VDJ XML database do?
Are the deleted or renamed files still in the database? Are they cleaned up somehow?
I tried to look in the XML file (with IE) but only the first part is displayed, further on there is "can't display" error, or something like that. Also the order in the XML seems random.

It will rewrite the database after you delete the mp3 txt database and rescan the drives.
It takes seconds to do.
Make sure if you are using a single hard drive that you empty the recycle bin prior to the scan.

Rick, he is talking about the xml database.
When you delete/rename files they stay in the xml database.
However there is an excellent (external) utility that cleans the database -in seconds- by removing all the invalid entries.
This is only available for full users, i hope to see you as a full member.

Funny how even a full member doesn't realize some of the benefits that come once you register.

So what is this utility, and where can I find it?

"mass rename"?. Do you mean you changed filenames or the path? If i analyze one song and then move it to another location, do i still have my song analyzed or not?

filenames...
If you move a file you need to update the search database (txt) only, not to analyze again.
xml database does not contain full paths, .txt database does.
