Topic: How Many Of You Are Doing Video Shows?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Just curious to see how many of you are using VDJ to show music videos. The new effects are great and I have not been getting any errors or freezze ups with 3.1

I'm setting up a bunch of vids in a playlist tonight and setting automix. Hopefully things will still be good in the morning.

doing all video shows now. I'm actually removing mp3's from my system to make more room for videos.

I'm replacing all my music with videos. If I have the video, I use it. If not, play the mp3.

But the change go on, until I have all I can in video.

I use video in VDJ at least twice a week. I haven't even pulled out my DVDx2/Videonics/LCD rig in about 2 months now.

This is more of a response rather than a number of times that I have used video for my DJ work. I have to remember that I am almost 60 and so the young have a lot more going on than I do so I have not used video ----->yet.

I have yet to determine if my Vaio can output a video signal so I can run my karaoke files but now that I have been dj'ing with VDJ my experience is growing each time and am now ready to try a karaoke disk (song file). Currently I can play a karaoke file(s) on my laptop (if they are unzipped) with VDJ but have not sent the signal out of my laptop to a TV screen. If I read correctly you can now use zipped files with VDJ. The karaoke plugin is a great one and works well.

Since I have been working with MP3's for dj'ing I have had to play a lot of my MP3's on my home desktop so I could listen to the song and see if it would work for the (crowd) or location I was doing. My wife said "boy wouldn't it be kool if we could get the effect (the one that plays when you use windows media player visualizations) on a big screen tv to create an special aptmosphere for our shows. This is not what I believe you are focusing on here in this post but the same idea about playing some visualization when the song plays. It seems like you are talking about what I know as vcd format of the song files. These files have a video that plays behind the music and in karaoke many years ago the large disk format had fewer songs but had background videos with them. Those players and disk's did not fair so well since they were too cumbersome because of their size. Now you can buy a 5'' disk with graphics called a vcd as far as I know.

Ok now the big question ----------> drum roll please xvxvxvxvxvxvxv> Can you take a mp3 file and add any video file format and covert it to a vcd file or even a zip file that plays along with the mp3 file on VDJ?

If the answer is yes can you tell me how because then I will have so much work to do because that would be so kool and my DJ show would ROCK even more. Speaking of that I did another wedding on Aug 4th and received so many compliments about my DJ work and I politely showed them my VDJ on my laptop and gave credit where credit was due! Thank you VDJ crew and users. You received a great compliment since there are many people that do weddings in my area and I received many compliments that they have never heard such a great DJ job before. It was a pleasure to let them know that my DJ attitude and style are all mine but with VDJ I can do so much more for the crowd.

I am so ready to determine if my SONY VAIO laptop has a video out. It has been a real problem finding out since I bought the laptop online "EBAY" and did not get the original manual and cannot find out the specs even from the SONY site. The site tells me alot but nothing about my type of video outs if any. What kind of an output do I need to have to be able to utilize the karaoke and now the video functions of VDJ?

Enough said - Thanks again all of you!!

Most pro's don't use compression. Straight VOB files is the best result.

VOB, so you just copy the files from the DVD into your harddrive?

Ken,

It's a little more complicated than just copying the VOB files from the DVD, but still much less involved than decoding and re-encoding with another codec. Use an app like SmartRipper (my personal favorite) which will not just copy the 8 VOB files from the DVD, but split them into separate VOB files for each chapter (assuming your songs are separated by chapter on the DVD like PromoOnly does.) It will also de-macrovision, unlock your DVD drive, etc. etc. making everything relatively easy for you. You then need to just rename each VOB file to correspond to the song, which SmartRipper won't do for you. I wrote an app that will do that for PromoOnly by going out to their webpage and getting all the titles, but this is generally a manual process.

Cyder has posted some screen shots of SmartRipper showing some good suggestions for various settings and options... maybe he can make a tutorial out of it? What do you say Cyder?

The nature of the music I mix does not have videos made for it, so it's a bit more difficult for me, also I only like original material, and not the edits, which most videos are..

But If I get my own club I think i'd invest in video, it's a very lucrative additon to a club.., but can't say I like looking at screens in clubs personally!.

Still, love the addition of video in 3.1.., but I'll wait till I have a PC, and not try and run this on 512mb ram on my laptop :(.

Hi,

for the video specialist: please tell me what kind of spec the PC must have to work smooth with video
So far I'm suffering with this functionality.
VDJ hangs almost every two songs so I have not that good expierience with it.
Actually i'm afraid to use it during a gig.
I hope after I have refreshed (re-install all soft) on my PC it's going to be better.

PC spec: P4 2.4 Ghz with 1 MB RAM + 2 HD of 40GB + 1 of 200GB and one SATA of 160GB
Soundcard: onboard for prelistening + Audigy I for output to amplifier.
Videcard: ATI radeon 9600Pro with 128MBRAM
TV card Hauppauge win TV PVR 150
OS = win 2000 Pro

So is the PC capable or not?

I have almost every possible codec on my sytem so this should be OK.
I removed even Power DVD and installed the elecard DVD player upon input from the forum here

Regards

Johans
