Topic: Sound level USB sound device for labtop / Optical line out

I'm planning to buy an extra (external) soundcard for my labtop. I was thinking of the Telex "P-500 USB Communications System". My questions:

1. Is it a good card and does it work smoothly with Atomix?
2. Is the sound level not too low? I connect my labtop now to a dj mixer through the headphone output which has a volume button (I have to put that at 80 % of its maximum and turn the gain button on my mixer at 70 % to get a decent output). I think the sound level on a USB device in general might be very low because it doesn't have a volume control button on it, or am i wrong?

I have a Toshiba Dynabook A2 Series (PIII 800 256 RAM Japanese Win Me) with an Optical line out built in, which I use to record on Mini Disc. That sound is a lot better than my headphone output. Is it possible to connect the optical out to a dj mixer? Are there mixers with an optical line in? (I know some amplifiers do have em).

thanx,

David
