Topic: Controller Mapping doesn`t work
Hello VDJ Forum,

I'd like to switch from Traktor to VDJ. I always use generic MIDI controllers like the Novation Zero or a small M-Vave SMC. I initially tried the free version for testing. I had no luck with the mapping process. I can map everything in the mapping window, but nothing happens in the program. Then I subscribed to the Home version, for whatever reason. I only found out later about the 10-minute trial period in the free version. Before I upgrade to the Pro version, I wanted to ask what the problem might be?

The problem is you need a Pro Licence for Generic controller mapping introduction/changes (your Home Licence is associated with one specific Controller, that is pre-mapped/configured by the Atomix team).

See the Controllers Section of the VirtualDJ user manual that gives that detail.

The controllers that can be used with a Home licence can be found Here - purchase of that licence only allows the controller you select for the licence I think.

Ok, thanks for response. Yes, I know about that. But isn’t there the possibility to test a controller in every Version in the first 10 Minutes after Program starts?

I don't think the 30 day trial opens with non defined devices.

good catch, locodog,

didn't realize, the question concerned an unsupported controller.

Yes the thing is, I don’t have any supported controller to choose. I want to try the for me working controller before I buy the software and I doesn’t work. Every Software has a trial, why VDJ don‘t?

If your device is midi it will be definable, they can't offer the no obligation 30 day trial for undefined devices as if you can make a device with a PLC you could cheat the system forever.
I believe the 10 minute trial does allow custom definitions. So you can prove your device definition before purchase.
I'd speak to support about return policy, they'll clarify and link you to all the resources for making a custom definition.

Ok, and generally it is so that when I own the Pro Version I can use my midi controller without choosing a supported one from the list first?

Yes, without a definition file you will be limited to input only [dial/sliders/encoders] on a unsupported device.
For LED feedback on your device you will need a custom definition.

Does the 10 minutes trial really work without picking a controller from the list? In mapping window my controller work as it should but in the Program not.
