I'll preface this with saying I don't really know how officially supported the use of .stem.m4a files (from Traktor, or in this particular case Nuostems, which does an amazing job generating them) is. I suspect it only works on Windows, as whenever I've mentioned it to anyone, I've seen people on mac report it doesn't work.
But opening .stem.m4a files in Traktor works great for me on Windows, mostly. I just use a 4 pad mapping, but mostly use the EQ stem controls instead.
However, VDJ is remarkable inconsistent at actually detecting the stems. It's very strange, most tracks just work fine, then some won't detect as stems

But then, if you change the track, and go back to the one which wasn't loading as stems, sometimes it now starts working!

I suggest you create a stem file with VDJ and examine the differences in the ones you are making and make them the same. I am guessing the number of audio steams is incorrect in some way

The point is it's convenient to be able to use Traktor's 4 stem format (1 track for full track, 4 stem tracks), without having to redo them. Also, Nuostems' algorithm (mel_band_rofomer+htdemucs_ft) is still better than VDJ's (at least last time I checked), but doesn't do separate kick/snare.
It's just so strange how it mostly works, then fails to detect certain tracks, but even then, that's only intermittently not detecting the stems.

What you are asking for is a feature request, not a Tech Support issue.

Although Traktor and VirtualDJ both use the mp4 container format to host the stem pieces, the VirtualDJ stems output file format is not the same as Traktor's (you already stated they have different # of stems being separated).
@wickedmix gave you a way to possibly convert between the two.
Atomix can choose to support the format, but it's not a requirement (I don't think Native Instruments, nor ppl on their forum, haven't expressed interest in supporting the VirtualDJ format either).
