Topic: Best Controller/Bang For MY Buck..? Numark NV vs. Pioneer DDJ-Sx2 ??

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am a mobile DJ with years of experience being your typical request DJ/MC. However, I have always enjoyed all aspects of DJ'n, and look to expand my setup/skills further (scratching, sample play, beat pad play, etc.) I have watched demo videos of both controllers. PLEASE HELP!
I Have to make my decision in the next day or so..
Does the SX2 have full functionality with VDJ??
I am on an under $1000 budget.
I also Plan to Upgrade to VDJ PRO (after my decision)

I was a Numark fan for so many years from Total Control, CDX, HDX, Mixdeck and NS6.

As soon as I had CDJs (first 900s now 2000Nexus), I switch on controllers to Pioneer too... from SX to SZ, and SX2.
This totally changed my performance on any platform.

So being a Pioneer fan now, I would say go for the SX2.

Funny you mention numark. I first owned numark headphones, which broke after yrs of mobile/wear-n-tear (now beats mixr). Then, owned a numark idj3 (eventually failed due to sound card/internal issues) then, owned a numark mix deck quad (which had a cd motor bad out of box & beginning use) So, I've been leaning on ideas of giving pioneer dj products a try.. while, I'd love CD-Js, and a nice $4-6,000 setup (2 cd-js and a mixer) This SX2 seems to be a good controller (i like that it has the LED Needle point and accurate touch sensitive jogs, plus light vs. CDJs i hear)
HOWEVER, today I was informed about the XDJ-R1, which is closer to the mix deck quad I had (and DOES have CD-drives for all of my older/unbacked up cd's in binders lol). Plus I plan to run VDJ-PRO8 as my primary software on whatever I buy.

Do You think these are still up-to-date with controllers like the Numark NV (large screens) coming into existence?
What do you feel like are the gains to using pioneer/the SX2??
is it worth losing/not having CD-player capability? (XDJ-R1 vs. SX2) @938MyDJ

In my opinion, Numark makes very nice toys... but not the quality you want for professional use. Back in the days, Numark cd players were installed in a lot of bars, but after a year or so they were all broken. I own a Numark Mixdeck because I thought it was high quality, but unfortunately it's not that good either. So no more Numark for me.

I own a lot of Denon equipment ( 3 x HC 4500, 3 x BU 4500, 2 x DNX 1600, 1 x DNX 1500 ) and I never had any problems with Denon. However, I'm really charmed by the new Pioneer XDJ series so I'm thinking of selling my Denon equipment and replacing it with Pioneer XDJ-RX systems.

So, my advise is to go for the Pioneer as well.

The SX2 works well with VDJ8. I would recommend it above Numark. I just don't think their products are high enough quality and now they've taken Denon oner!

The build quailty arguement always gets me. I mean Pioneer is every bit of plastic as Numark. So I think the arguement should be about the quailty of components inside the plastic 😂

My Denon 5500's build quailty is better then anything out right now and not only that but the amount of features it has!! I have yet to find a player that does so much.

So in my opinion I'd grab a set of Denon 5500's ( they won't work in midi mode with VDJ though, not sure if that matters).

As far as mixers go I'd at least get an Ecler NUO4 or a Pioneer DJM 700. This way you had midi functions in case you get into video.

Oh and grad a Pioneer DDJ SP1 for cue points, loops, sample and fx's controls. This is one piece of gear I NEVER leave home without 👍

About a year ago I was using a practically new DDJ-SX which stopped halfway through the evening. Under warranty Pioneer took a month perform the repair. It was something to do with a main internal circuit board, the thing just died. I've used loads of controllers, and the Pioneer has the dubious distinction of being the only one that has failed. It's nice, plastic, and big.
It is typical Pioneer "bling".
Also the Nexus 2000 feels like plastic rubbish.

My daughter, and nephew are both obsessed with "bling".
In my daughters defense she does stay on the inexpensive side of "bling", whilst my nephew is busy buying every expensive Pioneer offering he can find.

My vote goes to "Numark owned" Denon who make solid, compact controllers. However you then need a remix deck / sampler sub controller.

PS Not quite right, I've seen a couple of Denon buttons fail. Anyway I can repair things like that easily.
Note that Hercules make indestructible controllers but just don't have a fully professional image.

I will say this, even though the Pioneer CDJ's are just as plastic as most things out, they felt the best out of all the Pioneer platters I've used.

Sorry to hijack, I'm done here ✌️

+1
That's probably what most Pioneer CDJ users felt and the reason they became the Industry Standard : )

Back to topic... NV or SX2, what do you think?

I've just been mixing on a pair of Nexus 2000's, there big!
The display is very good, as is the strip for adjusting things like loop size.
They're quite functional.
However there too big to be mobile, and of cheap construction.
They did make a DDJ-SX look like a little toy.
The DDJ-SX is much bigger than the MC6000!

DDJ-SX2
It has much more "bling" power!
That appears to be important.

I have the NV which I use with VDJ8. Its my first dj setup & I love it! I can SEE what I'm doing

Pioneer Without thinking twice...

The XDJ-RX is a nice option at $1500 it seems But my biggest question does the device support midi and vdj control/play well?! My world is foreign to the likes of rekord box software and it ,besides the basic layout. BUT what about ddj-RZ vs. XDJ-RX tho?
My thoughts.. Neither have cd-slots.. I just miss my CD/controller & multimedia numark mix deck quad layout. Simplicity & option & contectivity. Although it was simple & out of box cheaply made defective

Kann mir jemand eventuell Tips oder Erfahrungsberichte zum Gemini G2V hier geben???

That is hard to say which is the best bang for the buck.
What are your DJ goals?
What are you going to be using it for?
The SX will be less cramped than the NV.
