I am going to try combined a few questions since they are all DB related.
1) I am having a problem trying to load songs from my external HDD into a VDJ7 database. I started by adding everything via the root drive letter (approx 89K songs) but it seemed to take FOREVER!! and when I finally give it enough time to finish (like overnight) it does not seem to have all the songs available . I can search for a song and get no results but when I do a windows search, the song is there on the HDD. I have tried several times to deleted and recreate the DB but still see the same issues. Is there some special technique I can use to load my songs into the DB? Do I need to divide it up into small chunks? Also is there a technique that I can use to validate that all the songs are in the DB?
2) on a similar topic, when I add new songs to the HDD, I, of course, then want to add them to the DB. On the HDD I have some songs separated by service so new songs may be in the same folder as older songs I have already added. If I just select the root folder and add to DB, will it only add the new songs or will it overwrite the existing entries and add everything again?
3) Lastly, I perform both mobile and club gigs and as a result, I have several version of the same song, like a clean radio edit, an Xmix edit, an Ultimix, and several different remixes. The problem I am having is when I search for a song I will see _ALL_ the various mixes of the song and sometimes, if I dont pay attention, or haven't tagged the file correctly, I may play a club remix when I want a radio edit or vice versa. I want to be able to separate radio edits, from my club edits and search them independently based on my event. How can I do that? Do I need seperate DBs, can I search multiple ones or even do that? Do I need to make virtual folders/crates to separate them? Any ideas are welcome
Thanks so much for any and all advice.
Keith

So you're making me go back to 7? Sorry you are having trouble, but this stuff is done automatically. Well, you have to push a few buttons. On the left side of your browser, right click one of your favorite folders, and select add to database. I have provided a pick of my config for you.
On the right you see search database, select add automatically. Any songs you add to your folders, will be added to the database. At the bottom of the picture, you notice the drive letters. This will tell you how many tracks, and what kind of tracks from that drive, are in the database. I also do club and mobile, and need to know the mix I need. Version 8 makes this a lot simpler, as you have more column options, and it will parse the file name for you. There are so many ways for you to filter your selections, you just have to find one that fits you. Filter folders, virtual folders, clean folders, search with the word clean, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't even know about. I have way too much content, but keep it simple. I know what mixes I like for certain affairs, and search that folder. Again, 8 makes this a lot easier because you can see these options. As for adding tracks, I add to the folders. If it's a PromoOnly Dance, I add to that folder. JonesTM Latin, Is added to that folder. Beatport just get's added to Beatport, with the year added. I only keep 2 years showing, and the other years, go into Beatport Various.

Thanks. I will give your advice a shot this weekend (a rare off-time). And as for going from 7 to 8, it is on my to-do list. Then I can try out the filtering you mentioned.... :)

Looks like I may have to give VDJ8 a try. I deleted the database files and re-added songs from the external hdd to the database tonight. Unfortunately, when I tried to verify the files like you mentioned, and go the the G:\ drive (external HDD), VDJ says there is 52,070 files listed in the db but via windows explorer, there are 52,352 on the disk. Close but I have no idea what songs I might be missing. SO I will upgrade the backup PC to VJ8 and give that a shot.

It could be that those extra files are non-audio/video files such as cover art, directory info files, Etc.
