I know that both 7 and 8 will give you the key and harmonic, but has anyone purchased MIK and use it instead of the built in checker ?
Pro's & Con's ............
Been offered it at an upgrade price of $30 ......... Is it worth paying for the new version (6.1)

I have been using MIK and PN (platinum notes) and both works great.
Mostly to use it in Rekordbox.
But with VDJ8 you dont need them anymore.....only if you are going to use other softwares.
I think its worth the price if you dont have it.

I love MIK it helps a lot. Even VDJ8 will still show a different key then what MIK will show. DJ Tech Tools (I think) did a review on a bunch of different key detections and they said MIK was 100% compared to all the others they tested. I use it for every tune I buy, it's a bit of a pain to get it going to start and update your whole library but it's worth it if harmonic mixing is important to you.

Agreed. If you consider keys important and you want the best results, get MIK.
VDJ 7 was dreadful because it detected everything as minor. VDJ 8 still needs fine tuning IMO because people have been getting random results.
MIK also has an on screen piano so you can play along and check the results (if you're not tone deaf).
Bear in mind though that MIK does need an internet connection while it's analysing.

Definitely..... I run all my files thru Mixed in Key and use the comments row instead of the key because it'll show not only the key but the track energy. A tracks energy at certain periods in your set is just as important as the key when mixing. I noticed that what VDJ says the key is and what Mixed In Key says it is sometimes is diff't!!!

If you want to be really anal you can go through each tag within VDJ (it's nice doing this in VDJ8). I do this all the time. It's very time consuming when you have a ton to update but once it's all done and your just updating the few new songs your buying it's great.

I bought MIK back in 2007 and have used it for all my Ibiza gigs (mainly deep house). I even created a desktop wallpaper of the Camelot Easymix Wheel so that I could minimise what program I was using (was using Traktor back then) and see where I needed to go next with my next tune. This was before VDJ had it built into the program.
I normally store the results in the Comment Tag and when I want to use it I enable the Comment in the browser then sort by that column. I don't use it much in my regular gig as its mainly chart & dance and people want specific tunes asap, can't move harmonically to the next tune all the time.
I don't do many mixes to share online. but, when I do it's always with harmonic mixing.
Great program.
