Topic: Using your keyboard, Do you, and What For?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

im curious as to what everyone uses their keyboards for? i know the home edition users use their keyboard for a lot of stuff seeing as it dont support controllers etc, but what about everyone else?

im just starting to work on using mine and re map it to how i want it, im thinking more an FX, sample, hot cue and loop unit than anything else. but i do need some inspiration.

Only thing I use the keyboard for is searching the DB for requests. The MC-6000 pretty much does everything except text entry.

The laptop I have has 2 screens, so 95% of the time the virtual keyboard is hidden anyway.

Basic DJ controllers cost nothing these days and I would rather use one of them rather than keyboard shortcuts.

laptop with 2 screens???

i have a harcules mp3e2 which i have some fx, loops, samles etc mapped into, and my mixer has built in fx too.

i want to play around with the keyboard and see what i can map tht i can use on a regular basis. the only thing ive come up with so far though is a record button and some more space for samples, fx, hot cues etc.. so not much so far and it gonna take a while to work out if its ging to be of any use to me or not.

i was also thinking of mapping sample record, but is it possible to ap a seperate key to record in a specific sample slot???

... and some still wait for some sneak pictures :)

It's only been a month Bob!

I will do them tonight

i have the arrows set for pitch bend and the number pad set to add, subtract or reset bpm, insert and home keys to unload tracks, both alt keys to switch between crossfader full and crossfader cut, spacebar to preview tracks, right now im only using a skin with 2 decks

When using my Mixdeck I pretty much only use the keyboard to search for tracks, everything is mapped.

Good luck

OMG keith, thats sick.... buy me one??? im so jealous right now..

If I was you I would just get one of the traktor or serato keypad sticker sets and map your keyboard to that, that way you will have a reference for what the keys do without remembering the letters. Also another good one is to use ctrl + any key for left deck, alt + any key for right deck, this way you can use the same key for an action, but assign the action to a deck using ctrl or alt.

I used to use this as an example

ctrl + 1 for "deck 1 hot_cue 1"
shift + ctrl + 1 for "deck 1 delete_cue 1"

alt + 1 for "deck 2 hot_cue 1"
shift + alt + 1 for "deck 2 delete_cue 1"

everything you can map is here http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript_verbs.html

sorry, but youve lost me there?? why would i use a raktor or serato sticker set for VDJ when theres a VDJ sticker set available??? i dont see the logic lol

thats been the highlight of my day so far.

WOWOWOWOW Keith!! Now thats what I am talkin about!!! Now you peaked my interest!!
