isscanned=0

that's it! You type that code into the syntax of the filter folder and BAM! Also, when you ad tracks to your library later on, the filter folder picks it up and you can do smaller scans.

I DL 50 to 75 new tracks a week. And let me tell you, I LOVE this filter. Get to the club Thursday night, scan the new tracks in 5 minutes, and away I go for the weekend. The filter folders will be your best friend.

Huey and his pink shirt know what I'm sayin! lol. Not picking on the shirt bro, it looked good.

that didnt work it doesnt sort anything thats sorted into folders. all it did was sort the tracks in the main hdd the sub folders and their subfolders and their subfolders were untouched.

right what ive decided to do, is to continue the way i was by moving things around if the scan gets interupted. ive created the filter folder but it doesnt pick up the entire collection that hasnt been scanned for some reason but im going to keep it for future reference.

im up to "I" now so its getting there.

ill just wait untill everythings scanned then go from there.

thanks for the help guys.

Use recurse to see sub folders.

www.virtualdj.com/forums/118199/General_Discussion/Recurse_.html

cant recurse a filter folder.

No, but you can recurse your "root" folder then add all the tracks to the DB.

That then lets you see the unscanned tracks with the filter.

meh, ill just carry on doing what im doing for now and check out the recursing and filter folder ideas later. the more im messing on the slower the scan is going so id rather just wait. once its all dont and i start adding more new tracks then ill mess on with everything else.

Man it didnt work cause you havent added them to your database.....................come on its obvious you still have some learning to do. You got like 5 people here ALL telling you the SAME thing and you say were wrong?? Naw its something your doing thats not right. Like Keith said recurse you main folder, add them to your database then make the FILTER FOLDER, scan and your done. Keep it simple.................

Or the shortened version ....... RTFM!

Yeah I don't know what he is talking about, I have folders on my database that have many sub folders so it will look like - General Music, then R&B and Soul, then each artist individually, THEN each album individually (even dual CD albums) and I created a filter like this

filepath start with "E:General Music\R&B And Soul" and isscanned=0

and lo and behold, it found only the unscanned files in the R&B folder despite being in sub folders by individual artist and album or already having a BPM but not scanned

In his case he needs to put

filepath starts with"drive letter:root folder name" and isscanned=0

i wasnt by any means saying anyone was wrong, the way i looked at it is this,

move some files, get them all scanned for bps, root them, database them, then learn learn all the stuff you guys were telling me.

there was something wrong that wasnt letting me do a lot of the suggestions.

so therefore, go back to basics, sort the root and go from there. i dont care what anyone says, going back is sometimes necessary to move forward, and im sure everyone knows that.

if one of the suggestions had worked i would have gladly carried on without problems. as it seems, i had no database which in turn wouldnt allow me to recurse and search for un scanned files.

so the suggestions were useless untill i had my database built.

to build my database, my personal preference was to have the entire colleciton scanned and then build the database containing the entire collection in one go, rather than database some of the strakcs that were already scanned and then adding more tracks to be scanned and then updating the database etc etc..

it seemed a whole lot less hastle to go about it in a methodical way and from the begining.

as it happens my methods are sometimes different to those of others.

Here is what you are suggesting:

VDJ, like anything with a database to it (itunes, Windows Media Center, etc) has to be told where to look for files. Even when you set iTunes up for the first time, you tell it to either add files automatically or that you will add them, but it has base folders where files are to be added from, whether it is preset by iTunes or by you.

Now, without that instruction, it doesn't know the files are there because it isn't looking.

When you see the folders in VDJ, if you right click that folder and say, Add to Search Database, it only adds the folder and files, including subfolders.

This does not mean it has scanned the files for loading and BPM reasons, just that it recognizes they are there. You also have to make sure you have your browser set up in VDJ to look for files based on what you are looking for. Example, mine is set up to search for file name, song title, artist, album, genre, bpm, etc.

What you are requesting is that you plug a HDD up, launch VDJ, and VDJ is suppose to automatically scan the HDD, root and subfolders and their files, gather the BPMs, etc. Would you like it to make your playlists and set up your cue points for you automatically?

no, what i am suggesting is that the insructions people werre giving me werent doing anything so i had to do things in a way that worked "for me"

once i had scanned all my bpms, and built a proper database, now everything else works as it should.

PICNIC comes to mind.....
