I'm just wondering how you will be able to play 4 decks at once with only 2 faders?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to argue with anyone but this product IMHO has only ONE good thing. The rest of it is full of "flaws"...
Let me explain:
1. 12cm jog touch sensitive wheels. That's the ONE good thing!!!
2. 2cm high jog wheels. I think they should be 1.5 or a little less but I'll pass it for now.
3. 1mm traveling jog wheel (weight detection) Excuse me? If you wanna "scratch" you must keep the jogs pressed down! Yeap, that's right. If you accidentally loose some pressure on your hand while scratching the scratch sensor goes off... Yes, VDJ is smart enough to handle this but from a hardware point of view it's not the smartest implementation possible...
4. The jogs are WAY to close to the upfaders. Even in the photos you can see how close they are and how easily you can trigger pitch-bend (or even a scratch) by mistake...
5. CUE/PLAY/STOP. Why did they have to put them this way "symmetrical" ??? The CUE/PLAY/STOP buttons position is pretty much a world wide standard among dj equipment for both horizontal or vertical placement. Are they trying to re-invent the wheel? Ok, it might be eye-candy but this doesn't mean that it's practical...
6. Too short upfaders. I can't tell their exact height but they seem to be 8cm long (since the platters are 12cm). WHY? Why they didn't come up with the world-wide standard of 10cm ??? Not only they are too close with each other and the jogs, but they are also too short... Not good.
Anyway, these are my first impressions.... I know that this product will be a successful one mainly because of the RMX and the user base Hercules made of it, but it's not something I would personally consider even as a suggestion to a starter dj....

Following the concept of Hercules.... the symmetry this is again my point of view of what should have been this console...
Maybe in the future...

Just my opinion but if I am going to spend the money to upgrade to a 4 chan mixer then I am going to get a 4 chan mixer. Not the RMX I all ready have with bigger jog wheels that I dont use and 2 channel selectors. Traktors S4 is looking pretty appealing, but twice as much...

Unfortunately you will have to wait for BPM on Saturday for more details. However its kind of amazing everyone is negative about this unit even though no one has actually used it.
Posted Thu 30 Sep 10 @ 4:41 pm
When is it going to be released?
Posted Thu 30 Sep 10 @ 4:46 pm
it would be nice if you could bridge 2 units..... That woud be sick.
It would also make sense to be able too, I am suprised that no company other then stanton has thought of this.

No negativity from me. I cant wait to see and use it.

It will be available for 449 € end of november 2010.
@ DJ CYDER:
Cyder, it's not negativity about the unit but some kind disappointed in the layout of the unit.
It will be a success i'm shure, but for professional point of view, there somethings that weren't included in the unit that are needed concerning what the market has to offer now.
It seems to me hercules is in the good way, but this unit comes in a time were other controller are already out and other will come till the end of the year with other price range i know, but will full workability in 4 decks as the same time.
Unfortunately Hercules didn't watched the market or was waiting for VDJ7 and misses the ideal time for release the product.
It's a question of timing.... in my opinion thats the only flaw....
Even so there will be many people with the considerable doubt between VSM4 and 4MX.
I'm one of them...but only cause i work with 2 decks + sampler most of the times... and the 2 deck in layout is enough for me...

Personally I'm not negative. I recognize that this unit will have a big success. It has a few good points as the big 12cm platter ala Pioneer style. However I don't like a few other things on the layout and that's what I commented above... As mp3jrick often says we need to standardize a few things on the controllers and Hercules just made another step on the wrong direction on this...

I agree Cyder, I'm excited to get my hands on it. Have you played a lot with it?

@ Cyder,
I'm not negative I just dont understand how you can split 4 different sounds on 2 channels. I guess lack of knowledge here thats all. Will be waiting to see how it all works. Wait a minute, after thinking about it I think I have a pretty good idea of how this is going to work now, lol!!
Thanks for your time

Does it have split headphone cueing (master/cue sound on separate ears)?
If not, then I'll try to find a MK2 just for THAT feature.

I wouldn't call it that. But I can tell you VDJ7 can route all 99 decks to a one soundcard, and we'll leave it at that.

One of the things i'm analyzing in the controller is kind of intriguing....
The LE skin shows the volume fader levels, working separated (each of the 4 decks having their own volume apart), but my question is:
- Imagine you are playing in A deck at 50% volume, and in C deck at 100% all virtually...When you switch from deck the controller (physical faders) the volumes won't correspond to what is virtually in VDJ.
If i am controlling in the console DECK A - 50% volume in VDJ and 4MX and i switch to DECK C (that is previously in 100% volume) the C Deck should come instantly to 50% volume since it the volume that's in the Console (not vdj) or it will have a jump if you try to turn in the controller to 100% like in the software.
I don't know if i am clear on my point....sorry.
Anyone has an opinion on this?

Hello luistfashion,
At the second you switch the deck on the controller, VirtualDJ will not update the virtual deck setting to match instantly the faders and rotary potentiometers (volume, pitch, EQ, gain) controller positions : VirtualDJ will wait until you move these faders and potentiometers up to the software position, and once the hardware control reaches the software value, VirtualDJ starts updating the software setting to match the fader or potentiometer hardware position.
In the example you propose:
- a track is playing on A deck at 50% volume in VirtualDJ, the controller is set on A deck, the volume fader on the controller is at 50%,
- a track is playing on C deck with 100% volume in VirtualDJ,
when you push on deck switch button to control C deck instead of A deck, then
- when you switch the deck, the volume on C deck remains at 100%,
- when you move the left volume fader on the controller, as long as you have not reached the 100% volume, VirtualDJ doesn't take the volume fader position into consideration,
- when you reach with the volume fader position the same volume as in the software (100%) then VirtualDJ starts updating the virtual deck volume to match with the hardware fader position.
So, if you want to set C deck volume at 70% instead of 100%:
- switch the deck from A to C on the controller,
- take the left volume fader cap on the controller,
- move the fader to 100% and then to 70%.
This function is called takeover, it is the way both Traktor Pro and VirtualDJ 7 actualize the position of a fader after a deck switch.

This is exactly how CDJ's work which have been in the industry for years, so must people are use to this logic...
