Topic: Cannot get it working with Torq timecode vinyls

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,
I just bought an NI Audio 4 DJ and 2 Torq control vinyls.
So I decided to try most apps on the market and see what I like best.
Traktor demo was included with the soundcard and I got it working fine (except absolute mode won't work).
Mixvibes Cross demo works fine aswell (What a terrible idea to disable one deck on the demo of a soft aimed at vinyl timecode users btw !!!).
IL Deckadance works perfectly.
but VDJ just won't work !!! (and from what I can see it looks like it would be my prefered interface by far)

Everything works as it should except that the audio files play at like 1/4 of the original tempo or even less ...

Here's the capture from the log :
http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc67/ambored_photo/vdj.jpg
I've tried every settings possible, relative/absolute mode, stéréo/phase inverted, everything.
I've also tried using Asio4All V2 drivers instead of the NI drivers.
I've tried both sides of the torq vinyls, 33 or 45rpm.
Few more things : bpm detection seems OK (or sometimes come up with precisely half the correct value), when previewing a track from the browser it plays fine.

that's it.
dunno which version of VDJ it is but it's the demo I've downloaded from the site last saturday. Install was fine.
I's running on a fresh and legal Windows XP SP3 with no other soft on it, except other dvs demos.
PC is an Acer Aspire, Intel Core Duo T2250, 2GB DDR2.
NI Audio 4 DJ brand new.
2 x Torq (Ms Pinky) timecode vinyl brand new.
2 x Numark TT500 with Numark styluses in fair condition.
Rane Empath mixer.

I don't think the problem comes from the dj setup or the computer/soundcard since every other software runs as it should.
This leaves us with :
- Me being dumb enough to miss some settings related to bpm or something
- Torq timecodes not being properly supported unlike it says on the tin.
- my version of VDJ being bugged

Thanks for your help !
I'd love to get it working before (now 18 days) the demo expire, else I'll just have to go with another soft not giving this one a proper chance.

So which timecode type did you pick from the drop-down list ?

See page 10 of the Quick Start Guide -- \My Documents\VirtualDJ\VirtualDJ 6 - Setup Quick Guide.pd

Torq.

Torq vinyls included with conectiv dont work - they play very slow (tried all settings). The serato vinyls work great.

Yeah its best to stick with serato timecodes for VDJ, though I did try traktor scratch timecodes and had no problems so that might be something to think about if you want to use traktor also. But as far as VDJ is concerned, Serato TCVs are the recommended and proven vinyls to use.

I second that. I tried Mixvibe, Torq and Serato v2 vinyl. V2 Vinyl is the best and better made (comparing the vinyl Torq was much flimsier....). SSL vinyl sells at guitar center for $10 each, which is half the price or Torq. SSL vinyl has a pretty cool color selection too. I use one red and one blue to match up with my tracks on the computer screen. Makes for a much better presentation.

I have also run into problems getting VDJ to work with Torq vinyl and the M-Audio connectiv interface

I used the "mixvibes dvs v2" setting with the Torq vinyl and then used the timecode debug feature to fine tune and it worked.
Although my time code visual of the green circle is not as clean as some of the screen shots I've viewed from others.

Antother trick I found helpful was when you are in the CONFIG mode and have the "Settings" window open, going to the "INFO" tab allows you to "reset to factory settings". This is very helpful when you are continually playing with the settings.

Once you get it working I advise "saving the setting"

I tried several times to use the "torq" setting but it does not work with the torq vinyl.

Anyone knows how to configure Torq using timecoded cds????

Please help???

DJays:

When using Torq Time Coded Vinyl you must use MixVibes DVS setting. Its one of the few that you dont have to revers the signal on. After that, you MUST disable the pitch control. Then when ever you start Virtual DJ you MUST REMEMBER to set your pitch to 10% and bring the faders all the way down on the pitch control to +10% every time you use this configuration. Then you must use the turntable pitch control which is best anyway because everyone tries to cheat and play DJ by using the Sync button. This configuration will hold you over until you by the Rane Serato Time Codes which are recommended for this program! Good Luck!
