Hey guys...can someone explain to me why you have to be a registered owner just to download midi controller mappings?

I have a ion discover DJ and I'm been searching for an app that makes it usable in a normal DJ set.

The included mixvibes software has a horrible scratch sound and no crossfade options or effects. Traktor (which I also own) has really bad sticker drift.

The VDJ mapper came up on my google alerts so I downloaded the demo. How the hell am I supposed to try out VDJ with this controller if I have to buy the program first?

Sounds backwards to me.

that's the way it is. you have to own a licensed of VirtualDJ in order to be able to download skins, effects, tools and drivers (mappers). that's the advantage of buying the licensed.

If you plan on using an app and would like to test the basic functionality, I don't consider that an "extra".

Midi mappings should be available to demo users because one of the main factors in a purchasing decision is how the app works with pre-existing hardware.

It would the same as if the demo didn't support ASIO drivers. How would I judge the latency?

We must reserve some features for paying customers. Downloading skins, effects, pluggins, etc. is VDJ's way of saying "Thank you" to those who have purchased the software....

a controller isn't basic functionality ......

Yes it is considering to VDJ demo is touted as fully functional and already has midi support.

I've been using DVS with turntables and CDJs for years, but looking for a portable solution for a couple of months.

I recieved the ion discover DJ as a xmas gift so I have some money to play with...if I can just find an app that actually works.

MIDI mapping jog wheels is a complete pain in the ass.

Any developer that can get the ion discover dj to work right will get my $$$, but of course I need to try it out.

I'm not asking for the same access as regular users, just the file for the ion so I can test out the platter response.

Can someone just email it to me?

You do make a good point about not being able to try out the controller itself, but using the keyboard & mouse you can still find out if its too your liking or not.. IE: play with the 'scratching' too see how it sounds, try out the crossfade and effects..
I don't know what you mean by 'sticker drift'.. I thought that had to do with Time Code?
