Got my DJM 5000 and have to say i am WAYYYY over the moon with it, been playing with the midi and it blows me away how responsive it is, a lot more sesponsive than my DMC2, being able to have the crossfader mapped is a dream come true too!!!
Quick question though, if i map this thing on VDJ installed on my home PC, what file do i copy so that i can transfer all my mappings straight to my gig pc without having to remap the mixer again.

Hey!! CONGRATZ on your new mixer! That mixer is so sexy to me. The best rackmount mixer I've ever seen.
If you go to My Documents -> VirtualDJ ->Mappers
From there you should find the file for your DJM5000 mappings. It might be called 'Pioneer DJM5000 mappings.'
Now if you want to use your mixer on more than one computer, you copy that file (Pioneer DJM5000 mappings), and paste it in
My Documents -> VirtualDJ ->Mappers of your new computer. Get me?
Hope this helps!
BTW: Post on this place again if you have troubles. Thanks and congratz again broooo!

The mapper file (if you change and custom make some feaures), is found at :
My Documents/VirtualDJ/mappers
Copy the corresponding file (has your controller name it it) from home pc to gig pc ;)

Thanks for that, yes i do love this mixer, not used it live though yet, it only arrived this morning, just wondering what else i can midi up on it, already done the mid high low rotaries and the crossfader, just can't stop playing with this thing, think I might need to look at something like the vestax and see what is midied on that, the 5000 has over 60 of it's controls mappable so it may be a long job. Would love to hear from anyone else who has one as to what they've mapped.
I was on the consulting team for the design of this mixer, I'm really pleased with how it's come out, but i said it at design and i'll say it again, i would love to have seen a little sd card reader on it so that if you have a crash, one button and it will play from the card whilst you reboot.

Just hit a snag, how do set the different channel EQ rotaries to control the eq for each deck, I just did an assign and action learn on left channels and set the eq's, but if I do the same for the right channel, when i rotate the eq on the right channel on mixer, it rotates the left deck eq in vdj

Yea having an SD card reader will be really good. However, I would expect to see that feature on the CD player rather than the mixer. At the same time this mixer is fairy new! I'm pretty sure people will create mappers for the mixer after some time.
Man I wish I had Pioneer. Even headphones will get me happy. lmaoo
So did everything work out? Did you get to transfer the midi files?

TopHouse .. the DJM 5000 is a nice mixer.
It has some great qualities and very much 'Pioneer' in its design and performance. The built-in sound card is nice as you can actually have left deck, right deck, and sampler channels. Being that it has MIDI capabilities it makes it nice to be able to map the crossfader to the video_crossfader. But beyond that mapping anything else 'channel' specific is kind of pointless.
For example, mapping the EQ knobs - if the EQ knobs are mapped to VirtualDJ and you turn them, then you are not only cutting the sound in VirtualDJ using it's EQ curve, but you are cutting the sound on the Mixer's channel using the respective knob's EQ curve. Why would you need to use both ?
Currently there is not a DJM-5000 definition and mapper. And you can use the Simple MIDI wrapper to map the basics.
The next VirtualDJ version will have a built-in definition for it. Unfortunately, I was not able to complete it in time for the last release.
But to answer your mapping question -- prefix the action with deck --
deck 1 eq_high, deck 1 eq_mid, deck 1 eq_low
deck 2 eq_high, deck 2 eq_mid, deck 2 eq_low

Actually i was thinking the above myself regarding the EQ's hence why i was thinking what to map, the crossfader is an obvious choice but other than that...

Exactly ... I have had the mixer for a month and beyond the crossfader I can't find any other necessities.
But people shouldn't read that wrong .. as I think one of the BIGGEST benefits is the built-in soundcard 3 channels.
And sure there are some uses for some of the knobs and faders that you may not be using on the specific deck channels ... (e.g. Zone Volume Fader tied to the video crossfader - so you can control the video crossfade during a song if you don't want or have a need to move the mixer's channel crossfader.)
But for a straight forward setup to just go Rock Da'House with .. crossfader mapped to video_crossfader and you are already 100x's better than using just a non-MIDI capable mixer.

Did you notice any improvement in sound quality over what you previously had? The mic dip is very nice too, am not convinced with the sound maximiser yer as if you're bi amped with good quality amps (qsx) with a good crossover, it should sound sweet anyway, I know mine does ;o)

Well let me say that if you have ever used a DJM-(6,7,8)00 then people will understand the quality in the DJM-5000. And as I said it is 'true Pioneer' engineering. And I have several different mixers (including the DJM-800) so this is not a replacement to anything.
Yes the vocal effects are nice .. but as others have mentioned in pre-release reviews the DJM-800's effects would have been a better choice. Because in the reality of being a DJ you are going to put effects on your music more so than doing effects when you are talking. Even as a MobileDJ this more true, because when doing mobile events clarity of your voice is most important so people can understand your announcements. I only bring up the mobile DJs because this is a 19" mixer and geared at those DJs more so than club DJs.
If Pioneer does an update to the DJM-800, I would hope they merge the USB features (SoundCard and MIDI) of the 5000 into the 800 design and features.

That's what I was thinking too, thought you must of had bleeding from the eq's of something.
Shame it has am attached lead, I alway like to use 0.5m moulded straight to a PDU. Adding both USB and SD card would of been good, someone said they would of preferred this in the CD players! well they have done this but some don't use timecode so it would of been better in the mixer.
All in all though best mixer out their for mobile guy's.
This is a good device http://www.cortex-pro.com/hdc_500.php

Hi,
I have a DJM-5000 too.
How can I use usb3/4 and usb5/6 from djm-5000 sound card with virtualdj ?
In the virtualdj config with asio djm-5000 driver, it's only possible to use 1/2 and 3/4.
Thanks

You use the 3-channel External Mixer option in the Output drop-down.
