Topic: Numark C3USB Mixer..Anybody know how to get it to work with VDJ

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

A while back someone asked about this mixer and I assumed it worked with VDJ just as the CM200USB that I have; however, that is apparently not the case.

I can only get sound on one channel and I have tried with two different computers (one with XP and one with Vista). Is there any special driver that is needed? When you plug it in to the computer it says it recognizes the device and is working properly but like I said it only responds as one sound card and not two.

When I plug into my 200 in the VDJ config a Numark sound card mixer shows up and it works perfectly but that is not the case with the C3, anybody have any ideas?

I just got my C3USB yesterday (along with DMC2) and I am having the same problems you are having. My macbook only recognizes 1 usb audio codec and not 2 like the quick start guide says. (I have also tested it on a HP laptop running XP, and windows xp(bootcamp) on my macbook) I have emailed numark twice and posted my question on several other popular dj boards. Hopefully we can find an answer, I thought the c3 was gonna pretty much be plug n play

hey man email me shanetburton@gmail.com and let me know if you find an answer becuase I am in the same boat as you.

I contacted Numark and they said the mixer is plug and play and the problem is with the software so I need to contact the software vendor (meaning VDJ....dev team....anybody want to give us a heads up here?).

I only have access to the mixer on Wednesdays when I play at that club so my experimentation is limited; however, one thing to try is if you have other software like Adobe Audition that lets you select your output device see if it shows up there as two separate soundcards and if so if they both work. If that is the case then we know it is a VDJ problem.

For mac users you may need to create an agregate device.

Drop me a pm with your email adress and I can send you a PDF guide for this.

What about PC users, we use only PC, The club computer (where the mixer is located) is running xp and and in the config in VDJ the options show as "2 Soundcards", "4.1 Soundcard" and "Asio Driver" No USB device shows up under "4.1" or "Asio" so I set the "2 Sound cards" option and then it gives the options of "Realtek Rear Output", "Primary Sound Device", "USB Soundcard" and "USB Soundcard (3)". So there are 2 sound cards showing up but I can only get sound out of the "USB Soundcard (3)" and not the "USB Soundcard". Both inputs on the back of the mixer are set to "USB In" (I have tried setting one to master with no difference).

When I plug in my laptop which is Vista I only get the "Usb Soundcard", realtek and primary and no second USB soundcard.

Wow, I'm glad I came here and saw this thread..
I was just thinking a few days ago of getting the Numark C3USB to replace my aging Numark cm100.

Same here!
I was thinking buying C3 USB + DMC2 in maybe aug-sept.
So is no one find a solution for this problem ?

Hi again!

Strange if someone not can solve this problem, but if its not possible to solve, what kind of mixer is then recommended to use with DMC-2, i need 3 or 4 channels mixer that works also with VDJ ?

CM200USB works perfectly for me....I will be doing some more playing around with the C3 on Wednesday so I will let you know my results then, there is a possibility that maybe the mixer itself is bad on one sound card but will not know until I do a few more tests on Wednesday.......I'll be sure to post the results here.

Curiously no one from the dev team has chimed in so I am assuming either they haven't tried it...or they can't get it to work either, maybe they will respond if I post something in hardware support thread.

So maybe its better to buy CM200USB then.
Whats the diffrence in CM200USB and C3 USB ?
Is CM200USB a good buy then with DMC-2 ?

Just as a test, when you plug the mixer in, you get two USB soundcards appearing in windows correct, which means it should work in 2 soundcard mode within VDJ - like the CM200USB does.

In the windows sounds control panel, you can specify a default device - select your internal (realtek one), start music playing in something like WMP or sound recorder and verify you can hear it. Stop the music, close the application. Then select one of the USB, repeat. Stop the music, close the application, select the other card, and repeat.

If you don't get sound from one of them then something is up with either the mixer, or it's settings.

Got the C3 to work finally. I deleted the existing usb drivers in device manager and then rebooted the computer then plugged int he A deck first then the b deck then went into the windows sound settings and selected the usb Soundcard as the default, then usb soundcard (2) showed up. Curious why it doesn't show up in VDJ as a Numark USB Mixer like the 200 does?

After that everything works fine now...be careful though, there is A LOT of bass in this card!

I really don't know the difference between the CM200USB and the C3USB except for the color scheme. My guess is they just replaced the CM200 with the C3, maybe making some specification changes or upgrading the soundcards maybe because they bothe have the same features and same layout, just a different color face.

!Question:

using either cm200usb or the c3usb,
Can you still have a third output like you can if using a 5.1 card..?
right now I have 3 outputs to my mixer, deck 1, deck 2, & samples/effects..

if I decide to go with the c3usb mixer, where does the sample/effects output go to???? (does it go to both usb outs or just one?)

thanx!

You should be able to assign a third output to the internal sound card on the computer and send the sampler output through that to a separate mixer channel.

Hi!

So should i choose CM 200USB or C3 USB with DMC2 ?

I just bought the dmc2 and c3usb, its the shit!!!! lol

forget about the cm200usb

I cannot get the c3usb to work properly under Mac OSX, if you are running windows and are running the latest version of VDJ then you will be fine. Also after downloading the dmc mapper tool from VDJ the DMC is a completely different beast.

I got mine from zzounds.com and I am extremely happy with it.

On the DMC 2 can you reprogram the instant loop buttons so instead of 1/8. 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4 & *8 you can have them 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 (why they put 1/4 and 1/8 is beyond me as that just sounds like a stuck cd insead of a loop)?

Also can you remap the "loop in" & "loop out" buttons for 2 additional hot cues?

Shit, now i have get answer from many stores that they dont sell 200usb anymore, they have only C3 usb, is it a bad buy ?????
Is there any other 3-4 chanels usb mixer on the market ? I need at least 3-channel (i have a external sampler also).
So if i have to buy C3 usb, what should i watch out for, is there any danger or difficult with installing c3 usb ?

Can someone help me plaese !

Don't know the price of the c3usb, but once I got it installed properly it is working fantastic...I think it is identical to the Cm200usb, just a new paint scheme.
