Topic: creating skins??

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I would like to try and develop or modify a skin or two, is there a software program i require to get started?? any help would be appreciated.

I don't develop skins but as far as I know you only need an image editing program and a text editor, that and be able to follow the instructions in the skin developers SDK. Skin developers, correct me if I am wrong.

Skins are fun, all you need is paintshop and notepad...you already have both

Also, a validating XML editor might help catch errors but it's certainly not needed. An image program and a text editor is all you need and as Cyderhouse already mentioned, you have both included in windows anyway. However, I might recommend an image editor that's a little more "friendly" than paintbrush.

I recommend taking a couple of skins and picking them apart by looking at the graphics and seeing how the XML tags provide function to the image (skin)

plus, you can always find help from people in the Skin forum
