Topic: Computer Infected | DO NOT INSTALL Antivirus 2009 from websites - Page: 2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

big hint - if a window pops up past your pop-up blockers DON'T CLOSE IT BY CLICKING THE X

as a matter of fact just to be cautious - never click those pop-ups that advertise anything.

you're alot safer going into task manager and closing internet explorer from there.

and yes.. this is the voice of personal experience talking... had to perform destructive restore to remove haxdoor from my computer when my other half let her friend look for a new layout for myspace on my computer... fun. not.

I used a software called Stopzilla to remove the antivirus 2009.
This virus was a nitemare to remove. Finally Stopzilla took care of this.
I recently then for safe measure did a reinstall of windows

I got hit with that virus in December, it was a total bum to get rid of. What i did was consult a geek website and ran a log scan of everything for them to see. What i ended up doing is running something called "combofix" long story short 10 min. later i was virus free!!! You do not have to wipe everything out everytime you get a virus, that is a quick fix from people lacking knowledge.

I had not click any silly box, or install anything myself. What had happened was i went to a website and some flash ad or something decided to go ahead and do it for me. It was a site i had been to many times before.

I'm in the process at this very moment of taking out a recording application I found the other day. I don't how I got this thing. Last night I got to my show and turned on my laptop and received this popup from my security. I just clicked past it but it kept sending me an alarm popup. Finally it left but I couldn't load VDJ in video mode but it was fine in standard mode. I had to use my back up system. This morning I reset back to last week restore and at least get vdj to load in video mode. What I video mode is activate dual screen and load VDJ. It just goes initiallize then just crashes with the beginning screen. I had to right click to close VDJ. I got it working now but will tinker with my laptop after tonights show.

Windows Live one care

Firefox + NoScript.

Not ONE popup comes trough this security, in the 2.5 years i'm using this config. Also i have not yet had a single virus in that same period. NoScript provides the ultimate in defence against internet hasards, there is nothing better.

I called the guy I got my laptop from and explained I got antivirus 2009. I told him that adaware by lavasoft removed it. He says even though it may appear to be gone that the virus is still there and that it will slowly "eat away" at all of my programs. He says the only way to truely eliminate the virus is to wipe the entire system clean and reinstall the windows OS. He wants $100.00 to do this. I'm trying to figure out if this is true or if he is scamming me. Does anybody know if what this guy is saying is true?

hehe.. its a SCAM!

First of all its not a VIRUS, its a ad-ware/malware whos purpuse is to make you buy theyr program + show ads.
It will NOT eat away any docuemnts and so on... its not even remotely close to being in such a category of viruses.. ;)
It will only produce fake warning alerts, increased pop-ups and the hijacking of your home page (default start up page in IE).

And secondly, any computer running microsoft defender (default in windows) or a decent anti virus program, would never allow any such things to happen anyways.

That guy is trying to rip you for 100 dollars

It can be hard to get rid of all traces of it, thats a different story, but most updated tools will do a good job at it

:)

Dude ,,its not a virus per se ,it is triggered by clicking on it in any way and it can be a PAIN

There are a lot of programs that can wipe it ,so don't fret unless you are in the middle of a show

If you see the warning box ,DO NOT CLICK CLOSE OR ON IT ANYWHERE AT ALL,go to Task manager and close ,go directly to your anti virus
and run full check and clean

This is another reason to not use internet connection, email ,,etc. on your gig rig unless absolutely
needed and only for brief time .

The touchy ness of things nowadays lends you to surf on one machine and do gigs on another

Best to You

Scott

Thanks so much for all your help Norway and everyone else. Thank God I got real people in my corner. That dude can kiss my...... The vdj community is unmatched and I relay that to non-users at every oppurtunity.

HEY... crossfade... and anyone else (SINCE I DID NOT SEE THIS MENTIONED)

if you should do a wipe or format of you machine.. that you use for VDJ please remember to back up
your VDJ database... and probably your keyboard settings, midi settings, samples, etc... playlists etc..history and such the like..

It is also good to do every once in a while.... or as often as you can.....
prevents at lot of work

hehe great point about the backup ;) should be done at least once a month at the very lest anyways (meanwhile I remember that I haven't done a backup in awhile :s ) . This piece of "CODE" is considered spyware because it does not harm or modify any system files on your computer and is not allowing somone to get access to your files, all "Antivirus 2009" does is cause very very annoying popups and tells you to buy it and it may change your browser homepage. There is a few fixes around like Norway mentioned that will remove most of it. What the computer repair shop guy is telling you is not entarily false you may not completly remove the spyware but for $100 don't waste your money letting him sit infront of it and watch windows reinstall. Also this repair shop, do the employes have any kind of certifications? If not take it someplace else. It takes a lot of time and skill to become a certified technican but it shows people your not just some guy who "thinks" he knows computers.

Let me know if you need help removing it.

I hold A+, Net+, and MCP certifactions. I know we must have other members with some certs also ;)

In regards to antivirus 2009...if it pops up on your screen do a ctrl + alt+del and end your interent explorer process. I have seen when you click the red x that it will install. This is a nasty spyware, and really slows a computer down. I have had over 10 customers get hit with this, the link Norway sent that allows you to download malwarebyte antimalware is a good program to help get rid of this. I have seen different variations, I only had 2 machines I had to wipe clean.

Ok so is "REBOOT" the same as a "RESTART"??

I wiped my dad's pc clean because of that damn 2009 antivirus crap over a month ago. A teenage family member got on and was myspacing and what not. I tried to remove it with recommended tools, but at the time they did not work. Ireally would prefer to have wiped it clean anyway...that way you know the MFer is gone!

Snap maybe we should get our own forum :)

i got it when when i was in my photobucket.

another good program to have is vundo fix.

oh and when i got hit it was a program called av360 2009

I don't no if it's helpfull but I use Symantec Ghost 12 for making a backup of the C drive.
The advantage is that you can make a backup while you're working in windows.
Also I copy the whole virtualdj folder in my documents to my external drive.
Then I have always all the playlists etc etc.

For the best performance I use a laptop that is only used for Virtualdj.
No internet, no antivirus and no services running that I don't need.

At home I only use antivirus from a big company to be sure that it is good stuff ( Macaffee)
Also know that there is a difference between a virus and spyware.

Don't try to remove a virus manually in the beginning.
For most of them you can find a removal tool on the internet.
They will delete the virus the way it must be deleted.

If you doubt of being infected, then go to a website where they scan your pc:

Hope it will help you.

I know there are many people that will think he's crazy with all that spy ware and viruses and .... and. On the web. But you are all running your windows session in admin mode right ? So every tool that tries to install can because you are an admin user of the machine. That's why you get infected ! As most people know Vista has uac that acts like and extra control when installing and launching things, that's just to get your attention that something wants to start ! There you already can take the action to stop or leave it. In Xp you don't have that warning so every spy ware or malware can install itself.

What I do on Xp or Vista or even 7even :

1. Account as admin user for installing softwares etc
2. Account as simple user for my other stuff, browsing etc

So if account 2 gets infected you can just delete it with the admin account and recreated it, no harm to your system.

I don't have an anti virus program, I just use windows defender, windows firewall and ad-aware which is not launched on startup but scheduled once a week to scan, you can do that even with an anti virus program. You just have to think twice when opening an file that you didn't created (exe, bpm, jpg etc etc).

And use Firefox 3 please, its safer then ie5,6,7 maybe 8 will be as good as Firefox. (7even could come with IE9 that will be safer than Firefox 3 I'v heard) .
