What is MIDI Protocol

Q. What is MIDI?

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and is a standard protocol that allows musical devices such as keyboards, synthesizers, sequencers, etc. to communicate with each other and/or a computer.

Because it is a standard that has been around for decades, it has been adopted by many manufacturers of DJ controllers to allow the controller to control and interact with DJ software such as VirtualDJ.

This allows the controller to be 'mapped' so that each button controls the software just as though you clicked on it with the mouse. The software can also send feedback back to the controller to light LED's, display text (If the controller has text displays), etc.
