Check this out, I thought it was

Main article: History of American football

The history of American football can be traced to early versions of Rugby football. Both games have their origin in varieties of football played in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, in which a ball is kicked at a goal and/or run over a line.

American football resulted from several major divergences from Rugby football, most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes were the introduction of the line of scrimmage and of down-and-distance rules. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gameplay developments by college coaches such as Amos Alonzo Stagg, Knute Rockne, and Glenn "Pop" Warner helped take advantage of the newly introduced forward pass. The popularity of collegiate football grew as it became the dominant version of the sport for the first half of the twentieth century. Bowl games, a college football tradition, attracted a national audience for collegiate teams. Bolstered by fierce rivalries, college football still holds widespread appeal in the US.

Guys; The Oldest Professional Football team in North America:

The Toronto Argonauts

Way Back When: 1873-1938

The early days of North America's oldest professional sports franchise, were humbling to say the least. In 1873, the Argonaut Rowing Club decided its members needed an athletic activity to keep them busy when weather conditions made it impossible for them to hit the water and the sport of football seemed to be the ideal athletic activity in the eyes of the directors.

The first years of Argo football were very informal. Games were only scheduled when the Rowing Club was challenged and there were not any formalized leagues, so sometimes the team would only play a handful of games. It was during these times that the famous 'Double Blue' colours of England's Oxford and Cambridge Universities were adopted.

Football...as the modern fan would know it, began to be played in the early years of the 20th century. In 1908, Lord Grey, the Governor General of Canada, donated the Grey Cup, to be awarded annually to the best amateur football team in Canada. Initially, the Argos made their first appearance in the national final in 1911, where they lost a defensive struggle to the University of Toronto 14-7. But in 1914, the Double Blue, led in part by star Jack O'Connor who was the leading scorer that season, won the first of what would be many Grey Cups when they whipped the University of Toronto 14-2.

In 1921, the Argos, behind Lionel 'Big Train' Conacher, went undefeated and won their second title defeating the Edmonton Eskimos 23-0 in what was the first ever Grey Cup match-up between East & West. Conacher, who would be voted Canada's athlete of the half century, dominated the gridirons of Canada that year scoring 14 touchdowns and 85 points.

The next twelve seasons were 'up and down' for the Argonauts. At times, the team fielded solid units on both offence and defence, but were unable to make it back into the spotlight. This changed in 1932 when half way through the season, Toronto hired Lew Hayman away from the University of Syracuse to serve as the new Head Coach. The team played well the remainder of the year and finished 3-3 and, the following season, with Hayman at the helm the entire time, Toronto won their 3rd Grey Cup title with a 4-3 victory over the Sarnia Imperials.

The Argos followed with two more Cup victories in '37 and '38 and made Canadian football history in the latter year when three Argonauts (Annis Stukas, Art West, and Red Storey) all finished 1-2-3 for the national scoring title.
