Topic: final scratch 2 amp, FS2 scratch amp use with vdj

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I'm trying to use vdj 5.0 rev 2 with an fs2 scratch amp as the sound card. I use an external 2 channel mixer as well as 2 cdj100 for timecode (vdj timecode). The fs2 amp is stated to be a wdm asio device. I am able to get two channel stereo output from vdj to my mixer if I configure vdj sound setup to use 2 sound cards, setting the fist as stantonscratchamp 1 out and the second as stantonscratchamp 2 out. Everything would be peaches if I didn't use timecode control however I do...

When I set vdj to use one or two timecodes as input I am forced to use my sound card as asio. When I select the scratch amp as driver and hit the configure button it reports an "error in the asio sound driver".

I have tried to set no timecode input and set the soundcard to asio with the driver setting as stanton scratchamp asio and get the same message "error in the asio sound driver".

I have also downloaded asio4all driver v2.8 beta 2 and get error in the asio, not enough channels message when I set it as the driver and click configure. the asio4all program uses a symbol to indicate the amp input and outputs are beyond logic.

I can use my amp in ableton live as well as in trakto dj studio 3.1 with all inputs and outputs working properly. I have tried a demo of deckadance and this works with the amp as well.

Deckadance allows me to use the following ins and outs on the amp:

Out 1 left
out 1 right
out 2 left
out 2 right
headphones left
headphones right
in 1 left
in 1 right
in 2 left
in 2 right
mic/aux left
mic/aux right

the amp has the following as seen in windows xp control pannel/sound settings:
stanton scratchamp out 1
stanton scratchamp out 2
stanton scratchamp headphones

stanton scratchamp 1 in
stanton scratchamp 2 in
stanton scratchamp mic/aux

could you please help me configure this sound card for use with virtual dj software help would be greatly appreciated as it is pretty much the best ever dj software.

shot in the dark here.. .but when you double click your scratch amp settings.. does it detect the final scratch? thats the only time i have seen error in asio sound driver... also ensure there is power to your PC/Laptop and also power to the final scratch or it won't work.

i have (2) CDJ-1000 MK3's, Ecler NU04 Mixer, FinalScratch 2 and VDJ 5 and it works fine..

Looks like we have a similar setup which is great;
By the way, I am using an intel macbook pro running boot camp using windows xp service pack 2.

To answer your question:
when i double click the scratch amp driver settings in the task bar i can see the amp detected and set as follows
sample rate: 96.0 khz
cpu latency: low
latency: 1.5 ms

Generally I connect to the fs2 amp via 6 pin to 6 pin firewire which also serves to powers the amp which I can tell is working due 1: the blue light on the amp itself 2:it is detected by the scratch amp driver program which comes with fs2 3: It works with other software "ableton, traktor"

I have tested the amp using your directions as follows:

amp pluged in to power source "blue light comes on"
laptop pluged in to power source "ac power being shown as current source"

then tried to set vdj config sound setup as follows;
inputs: none
outputs: external mixer
sound card: asio
asio driver: scratchamp asio
output channels: left deck chan 1&2/right deck chan 3/4

in these settings or anytime asio is selected as the soundcard I get the message "error in the asio sound driver" after pressing the asio config button, if I set the driver to be ASIO4ALL v2 and press the config ASIO button I get the message error in sound card not enough channels but the ASIO4ALL program comes up and shows the scratch amp channels to all have the "beyond logic" symbol
with these settings the decks do not play, nor do they play if I use a timecode cd.

I think it is strange that vdj does not open the fs2 driver when i push the ASIO config button as it can open the program to configure ASIO4ALL.

Can you tell me how you have configured your vdj in sound setup for use with fs2:
input:
output:
sound card:
AsIO driver:
input channels:
output channels:

Can you tell me if you use ASIO4ALL as the selected driver in vdj in order to use the fs2 amp and if so if the inputs and outputs of the fs2 amp give you the beyond logic symbol.

I wish it was possible to configure vdj the way most other music software allows you to ie set each software deck to the soundcard of choice individually.

Any help would be great

Everything works great with live

Ableton live settings:
Driver type: ASIO
Audio device: ScratchAmp ASIO
Input config: ½ stereo, ¾ stereo, 5/6 stereo
Output config: ½ stereo. ¾ stereo/ 5/6 stereo
Hardware seteup: if I click on this it brings up the scratch amp driver program which vdj does not do

Input from deck 1: ext in 1/2
Input from deck 2: ext in 3/4
Input from aux or mic: ext in 5/6

Output for chan 1: ext out ½
Output for chan 2: ext out ¾
Output for chan 3: ext out 5/6

Everything also work great with traktor & deckadance similar settings.

Could you please help with this as Stanton and Native Instruments have parted ways and Stanton has anouced FS3 open. If Virtual DJ can run well with the FS2 amp, especially on intel macs this creates a powerful tool and will greatly widen the userbase for VDJ.

Can anyone help configure vdj to use the scratchamp asio driver? I think this is where the problem lies.
