Topic: Arrrgh! Where’s the PITCH BEND shortcut ?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

While beatmatching, I use the mouse to click on the PITCH BEND – and a small miracle happens: the video/song actually PITCH BENDS like a charm, the KEYLOCK stays locked, my mix happens smoothly, everyone is happy. A thing of beauty.

However while trying to cut down on mouse clicks, I try the infamous “nudge” via the keyboard shortcuts ([Left][Right]) to emulate the small miracle of PITCH BEND – Two words: Train Wreck. The Key of the song changes grossly (very annoying) and Pitch changes are erratic.

I’m beginning to think that the good guys that created VDJ may have overlooked this extremely functional utility in the keyboard shortcuts (I hope I’m wrong). Let me explain how I arrived at this:

1. I loaded video on Deck 1
2. While video is cued and not playing – I click and hold the PITCH BEND “+”/”-“ respectively. Nothing happens (That’s great, nothing is supposed to happen).
3. Now with the same video still on cue and still not playing, I press the [Left] arrow on the keyboard: Video starts slowly advancing (That’s great, [Left] arrow is supposed to “nudge” the media forward).

PITCH BEND and NUDGE are two very distinct functions (common knowledge).

I have found the “nudge” keys; CONFIG -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> [Left][Right] -> turntable -> nudge -> Value = +/- 256;

NOW the Million Dollar question: Where’s the PITCH BEND shortcut that precisely emulates what I do with my mouse when I click on PITCH BEND?

Thank you in advance for any help.
DJ Diamond G.

PS: Another clue that “Nudge” isn’t “Pitch Bend” on the shortcuts is that when I change the nudge value from +/-256 to a very low value (e.g. 60), Pitch Bend isn’t affected by the change in value and reacts to mouse clicks the same as usual.

Excellent explanation of PITCH BEND and the importance of it:

You could answer yourself quite easily; open the skin's xml and search for "bend",
than you find this line of code:

<button action="pitch_bend" chan="1" value="-256 temporary">

and realize that function's name is "pitch_bend".

So, you look into keyboard shortcuts, find the "pitch" section, select the
"pitch bend" function, assign the key (e.g. CTRL+Left), put in the value
(e.g. "-256") and tick the "momentarily" checkbox. Make the similar procedure
for value "+256" and voila - you just got yourself a million dollars tax free ;)

in keyboard shtcts click add , then highlight pitch_bend .........

there's the small matter of the tax on that million also ......... there's always tax ... you know , death , taxes , VDJ

aaaarrgghhhh matey

WOW !!!

No more Train Wrecks (at least not any because of VDJ. lol)

You guys are awesome !!
I posted late last night and checked for responses in the morning before I left to work. Found the answers to the Million dollar question looking right at me. Had to wait to get off work to try it (thought about it all day. I'm sure some of you guys can relate).

I'm sure both suggestions would work, but tried the one from "chucknorrisyouwimps". It was so simple and works GREAT!

I knew the good guys from VDJ/forum had me covered - It was just my inexperience. You guys ROCK.

Thanks a "Million"

Hehe, if you'd read both posts carefully you'd notice it's the same suggestion.
I just tried to dramatize the way you described your problem that had a very
simple solution :) And I explained how to find a new way to a solution when
you get stuck at one point for some stupid reason (like overlooking stuff that's
under your nose - happens to me all the time) ;)
