I asked this in another post, but no one has replied yet. Are filter folders supposed to disapear when you close VDJ or should they automatically be saved once you create them? I created a Filter folder for my karaoke, but it disapeared when I closed the program. I have to re-create it everytime I start VDJ?

No it should stay. If you are using Vista, go to the My Documents -> VirtualDJ folder -- right click on the VirtualDJ Local Database v5.xml file and look at the security permissions for the file and make sure that ALL user's have full access to the file. Then launch VirtualDJ and create your filter folder.

How many login accounts are on that machine? Are you always logged in as the same user ? The Filter Folders are stored in the Core database in the My Documents-> VirtualDJ folder. Check the VirtualDJ Database v5.xml file in that folder. Is it marked as Read Only ?

As far as I know, I have only 1 login account that was made when my computer was first set up. I don't log in each time I turn on my computer though; I just turn it on and it powers up.
I went to the my documents folder and opened the virtualdj folder and found 3 .xml files. 1 was 5.0, created on 9/22/07, the 2nd was labeled Virtualdj database (michael cardamone) created on9/11/07 and the third was labeled virtualdj database created 4/18/06. I right clicked on each and hit properties. All three did not have the read only box checked. Should that box be checked and on which xml file?
Question, are there supposed to be 3 .xml files? One obviously is from 4.3, but I thouhgt 5.0 woulkd over write it. The other one with my name in brackets is a total mystery to me as I have never gone into this folder and never renamed an xml file. Could haveing three xml files be what's causing the filter folder to disappear? Could this also be causing my Karaoke problem that I've been having with the system locking up when I click on the Favorite folders for my karaoke? Should I delete the other 2 xml files and leave the 5.0 xml file? Please advise.

The 3 files are:
VirtualDJ Database (michael cardamone).xml <- Your v4.x Primary Database
VirtualDJ Database.xml <- Secondary v4.x database
VirtualDJ Database v5.xml <- Core v5 database (Filter Folder and any C: drive file information stored here)
OK, as for the Read Only -- NO, it should not be and you are fine. And no, version 5 does not OVERWRITE the v4 file. It used it to build the v5 files.
Do me a favor, open the file named - VirtualDJ Database.xml is there what looks like filter folder info in there. There would be entries that look like this - <FilterFolder Name="Need Analyzed" Order="3" Filter="isscanned=0" />
What to do with the v4 files. If you are happy so far with how your info transfer over to v5 from v4, AND you didn't make a copy of the v4 executable as a backup then Yes, you can delete the two files from v4. I would recommend just renaming or cut & paste to another location for now and delete at a later date.
As for the Karaoke issue, not sure on this, on why it's still hanging. I know I tried helping you with it in another thread. But, after you rename, delete OR move those two v4 files see what happens.

Ok. I looked in all three of the XML files and couldn't find a Filter Folder string in the lines of code. I then created a filter folder and then closed VDJ and again looked in the 3 XML files and still couldn't find any filter folder info.. It seems VDJ isn't saving the folder once I create it.
Next, I cut the 2 4.3 XML files and placed them in a new folder on my desktop so now XML 5.0 is the only XML file in the MY Documents/Virtual DJ folder except for another XML filke which is called XP10.XML. I'm assuming that file is for Virtual to interface with XP.
Now that XML 5.0 was the only XML file in there, I opened virtual and again created a filter folder for my karaoke using : "type=karaoke" as shown in the 5.0 update manual. I then closed VDJ and checled the .XML 5.0 file and the filter folder string is still not there. I reopened Virtual and the filter folder was gone just like before. Just for kicks, I clicked on my favorite folders for my Karaoke, but the slow read time and lock up is still there.
There definitely seems to be issues in 5.0 that are not being resolved with all these work arounds. When I submit a ticket to the help center, do the programmers and developers see it? I want to make them aware of my problems so hopefully they will address them in the next update.

Have you used the Registry Tool (download from this site) ?
Posted Tue 25 Sep 07 @ 4:34 pm
I downloaded it and started it. What settings should I have checked in the various check boxes? Do I click clean, refresh or apply?
Posted Tue 25 Sep 07 @ 6:52 pm
Don't Click CLEAN - that wipes the Registry settings
Is there a check in the NoModifFiles option ? If YES, uncheck it and press apply.

blaide13 - try this --
1. go to Config -> Browser tab in the bottom section select the C: drive from the drop-down. And in this order click Fix, Check, Clean
2. Close VirtualDJ, Reopen VirtualDJ
3. Create a Filter Folder
Close and Reopen VirtualDJ, does it stay ?

Cstoll,
The box in reg tool was not checked. I did as you said and did the config, browser, fix, check clean and closed VDJ and reopened. When I did, I got a message saying drice C was corrupted and should be checked. I went to the config menu again and performed the same operation you outlined and when I shut down VDJ and opened again, there was no error message this time. I then created a filter folder, closed VDJ and reopened and the filter folder was not there. Same problem persists.

Rename all the Database XML files in your MyDocuments -> VirtualDJ folder. Just ADD the extension of .old to them.
Launch VirtualDJ and create a Virtual Folder or Filter Folder. Close and re-open VirtualDJ.
Results?

When you say add .old to the XML files do you mean: Virtualdj 5.0.xml.old OR virtualdj 5.0.old?
Also, I moved the 4.3 xml files to my desktop so only 5.0 is left. But I also have an xml files called xp10.xml in the my documents folder. I'm assuming that is how virtual interfaces with XP Professional. SHould I also add .old to that file or only the Virtualdj 5.0.xml file?

Yes the XP10.xml is the mapping for the XP10 controllers. So don't worry about that one.
Just the VirtualDJ Database v5.xml file. Yes, VirtualDJ Database v5.xml.old

I tried it.
no good. Still not saving the filter folder.
I got a warning saying that renaming the file could make it unstable. Should I change it back by getting rid of the .old extension?

i just checkerd the my documents folder and now there is another xml file called virttualdj database 5.0.xml that wasn't there before. Did virtual think bthe database got erased and created a new one? Should I delete the new one and name the original one back to virtualdj 5.0.xml?
Posted Wed 26 Sep 07 @ 7:09 pm
NO, the proper name is VirtualDJ Database v5.xml -- Do your filter folders or Virtual Folders stay ? We will fix the old file next.
Posted Wed 26 Sep 07 @ 7:12 pm
sorry, my mistake. I meant, should I erase the new file that appeared and rename the original file that I modified from Virtualdj Database v5.xml.old back to Virtualdj database v5.xml?

Correct that's what you would do... but, did your filter folder stay saved this time ? Need to know if that fixed the issue, so I can get the Development Team to look for the coding issue.
