Topic: Does the Virtual DJ Pro trial mode allow for custom MIDI mapping?
In other words, does the Virtual DJ Pro trial let you test out MIDI mapping with generic/unsupported MIDI devices?

I'm trying to test out the hardware I currently have with the 30-day trial version of VDJ.

I have 2 MIDI devices connected: an AKAI AMX and a Native Instruments Maschine MK 1 Controller set to generic MIDI mode. Both devices function in other applications on my PC.

The AMX works just fine in VDJ as it's detected as a supported hardware device, but I'm having problems with the Maschine Controller.

I can map out any of the Maschine pads and encoders to different VDJ functions. All of the pads and encoders show on/off when I push or move them in the mapping window. However, none of the mappings I made actually work in VDJ when I hit a pad or move an encoder.

e.g., I've mapped a pad that is shown as "0-BUTTON0" in the mapping window to the play_button (I used the eyedrop tool), but after using the mouse to drag a track into the deck, pushing the pad that I mapped doesn't play the track.

If I hover over the play button with my mouse, it does show that the function has been mapped (the text reads "Maschine Controller In 0-BUTTON0")

I've also tried disconnecting the Maschine controller and hooking up a MIDI keyboard, but have encountered the same issue of being able to map out functions to keys, but having none of the functions trigger when pushing the keys.

The short answer is, that the free trial does not allow custom Midi mapping or definitions for none supported devices.

You can however before you decide to purchase, get the one month subscription for the $19, to insure you VD will do all you wish.

VDJ is one of the best values, I know of, for it has lifetime updates.. and the updates just keep getting more and more amazing.

I've enjoyed using my AMX with the VDJ trial these past few days. It's certainly been more stable for me than Serato has been so far on Windows 10. It's good to know that there wasn't something up with my other MIDI hardware and/or PC.
