Topic: Songs order, in the browser playlist section

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Dear all

i use virtualdj pro edition 7.4 (and LE edition)
i have notice a problem so please if there is a solution let me know. When i choose a playlist folder from right (folders tree), this playlist is open in the middle section of the program. You can change the order of the songs either by artist, title, bpm etc...BUT YOU CANT choose manually the order of the songs (like in serato or other programs). This can be a huge problem when you deal with playlists with dozens of song. When im in a gig, i cant possibly remember which are the 4-5 songs i want to play from a playlist. I want them to seem in front of me, and not using the scroll to...discover em!!

Some guy advised me to change the songs name and put a number in front of them (1, 2, 3, 4...) so when i push "title", the program will ascend them in arithmetic order... I find this as a very childish solution....

Pls...can anyone help me?

use the right side (automix) to change the order after you save it
The file will be in the folder "virtualDJ/Playlists"

The tracks you play the most from that playlist I believe will always be at the top of the list

dear friend,
i dont want to use the automix everytime i open one playlist. This is frustrating. I want to change the order of my songs in the browser, and save them there. If i have to drag every single song of one playlist in the automix section to save them, then its gonna be a huge lost time everytime

first....normally you do not have a automix feature using your le...;-)
second...if you use playlists as u say...you can sort and move your tracks quite easy there....

Rob, i dont think the problem is if i have the le edition or the pro:)we are missing the point here

as i told above, i dont want everytime when i open a playlist, to drag the whole playlist in the right section and manage the songs order
i want to manage the tracks order in the main section
is that possible?

Sorry, this is not currently possible. The browser in VirtualDJ works on folders and files just like Windows Explorer. The main section is simply a view of the files in the folder that you have selected on the left-hand side.

Files can be sorted by clicking on one of the column headings. By default, 'smart' order is used which will list files that you have most recently played first.

To have files in a specific set order, you will need to create and save a playlist (VirtualDJ LE is limited software and does not normally support playlists outside of the 20 day trial of the full VirtualDJ Pro - See comparison.)

Another option is to use one of the custom fields in the database (E.g: FIeld1) to set an index number for the file. Simply add the Field1 column to the browser (Right-click on one of the column headings to choose which columns to show) then right-click on each file and choose File Infos. Enter an appropriate number in Field1 (E.g: 001, 002, 003 ... 010, 011... 101, 102, etc.) You can then click on the Field1 column to sort the files based on this number. This solution will work in LE and does not interfere with the name of the song. You can also still sort by other fields such as artist, title, etc. whenever you need to.
