Topic: Smart Playlist based on Play Count? and/etc

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Forgive me for taking the easy way out at this time and just asking here on the forum vs. installing and checking myself...

I've been a digital-based DJ for over 12 years, I do mobile DJ work (weddings/bars/etc).
I've been aware of VDJ and probably checked it out once or twice in that time but have never purchased it and used it. Today I find myself using a DJ application with dreadful support and it is driving my nuts. I think it is time for me to move on to another DJ software. My needs are pretty basic! I do not use effects, do video, karaoke/etc. All I need is two decks, some basic beat-matching, the ability to shuffle play a playlist (dinner music) and comprehensive music library management.

One feature that I need (and is implemented in my current app) is Smart Playlists. *Specifically* smart playlists that are built on PLAY COUNT. That is, I have dynamically updated playlists based on the number of times I play a particular track.

Is this implemented in Virtual DJ today?

Secondly, is there current full support for the Denon HC-4500?

Thank you

The answer to both of your questions is YES.

1. You can create "smart" playlists (They are called "Filter Folders" in VirtualDj) based on any criteria you wish by using a "SQL like" command.
2. DN HC4500 is fully supported for several years (back from 2008 or 2009 if my memory serves me correctly)
3. You can see a full list with the currently supported controllers here: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20Controllers.html
4. You can change the default mapping of the device if you wish to personalize it and bring it closer to your style and needs if you wish! (Or to bring it closer to the way you're used to work now)

well I'll be damned...I can't believe the answer is VDJ then. Alright. Sold.

Is this the same Phantom DJ from the old PCDJ forums?

Yes it is! ;)

I thought so!

You know, now when I think about it....I really am some sort of PCDJ refugee (or more specifically "J" the original programmer). I was using the "old blue" SL1200 back in 2000 which had the infamous "encryption enabled by default" which made almost my entire library unusable by any other software. This meant I got as far as "Red" until J came back for Reflex and released the decryption software, so I skipped FX and VRM and what ever else they released in that time... I really dug Reflex, which as you probably know fizzled out in rather dramatic fashion. Tried Dex..maybe tried Traktor and some others. The smart playlists in Reflex were a revolution in my way of managing my library, I realized I couldn't live without that. And the beat quantize stuff was nice. So I was stuck on a dead software until he resurfaced with RPM which I've been happily using since...at least until about 2 months ago when a bug surfaced that I can't live with....and was (am) getting absolutely no support for....that coupled with +year-old promises of a new version that was going to be "really great" but with absolutely no specifics about when/what...it became obvious that RPM wasn't really going anywhere....so I started the hunt for a software that will meet my rather basic needs.
I tried Itch. Can't stand the library management. My choice in controller seems ill advised there too (Xone DX)

SOOOOOOOOOO

Here I am. A new VDJ Pro owner. I ran home at lunch break and installed it on my main machine, set it scanning my main library of 30,000+.
I hope to be learning the ins/outs this weekend (first weekend off after a long wedding season!)

Thanks

The XONE series is not supported nativelly by VirtualDj, but you can download a plug-in to make it work!
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/controllers.html?category=best&order=default&search=xone

For XONE DX you can use http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/14622/Allen___Heath_XONE_DX_Mapper.html or http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/13495/Allen_Heath_Xone_DX.html

Just download one or another of these two plugins and run the executable file. It will automatically install a definition file + a mapper on your VirtualDj program and you'll be able to use your controller with VDJ.

Once the definition file is installed on your system you can tweak the mapper to fit your own needs.

You'll have to study a little the "VDJ Script" http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript.html but for simple operations it's pretty much straight forward!

Another refugee from PCDJ, welcome.

I bought and used all the PCDJ products from Blue through to FX followed by a 2 year spell with Tractor.

Switched to VirtualDJ around 5 years ago and have never looked back. :-)

Xone:1d, Xone:2d & Xone:4d now supported natively in VDJ 7.1 ...

Enjoy !

yeah but I've got the DX....
I tried it out briefly but both mappings were weird and there were some other issues.
