Topic: Crossfader automatically fades back left when controller hits 100% right

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Whenever I crossfade to the right hand deck (using Denon MC6000 controller) the software crossfader slowly moves about 25% back to the left, ruining my mix every time.

I am have updated to VDJ Pro 7.0.5b and even factory reset and re-installed with the same problem. I have remapped the audio_crossfader to crossfader (same problem occurs if mapped to _slider or _relative too) and scoured the forums for a similar problem.

I am using the 4 deck standard skin (it happens in all skins tho) on a Windows 7 PC.

I have a gig tonight and can use the sliders as a work around but it makes mixing more difficult.

Any ideas?

you can see if it's a hardware fault with miditrace... http://www.virtualdj.com/download/miditrace.exe

for a slider it will give 127 lines from left to right. each line will look similar to

B0 3A 00 00

the blue value is the midi location, but the important one is the green, it will go from 00 to 7F, you want to see if it moves back when you slide it over to the right side, I doubt it will but it rules out a hardware fault.

Thanks for the prompt response!!

Hmm, it happily counts up from 01 to 7F as I move from left to right but then once the controller has stopped at 100% right it keeps spitting out values like 7E then 7B, 6F, 77, etc for about 30 lines....

Sounds like I might need firmware upgrade then?

yep unfortunately it's a hardware issue, best to look for a solution on the denon support forum.

Ok, thanks again for your help!

your welcome, good luck

Make sure the AUTO icon is OFF, otherwise this is your problem.

Thanks,
Auto is off. I've remapped audio and video crossfader, changed all the settings in VDJ (including all the Options in the Video Tab of Config and the Crossfader settings in the Options Tab of Config) and set VDJ back to factory defaults.

Surely its a hardware problem because MidiTrace shows signal coming from the MC6000 crossfader even when it is not moving (and even when VDJ is not loaded). Right?

Oh, and I should add that it happens on both the audio and video crossfaders, separately when they are unlinked and together when they are linked (using CF mode). It also happens even when no tracks are loaded in VDJ.

If it sends MIDI messages like that outside of VirtualDJ then it means that there is probably a hardware fault with the crossfader or it has been damaged.
