Topic: Virtual DJ finding more copies of a song than actually exist!! VERY STRANGE.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all,

My problem started when Virtual DJ gave me a load error for a particular song.

I then found all the copies of this song on my hard drive, deleted them, and replaced them with another copy of the same song. This then seemed to fix the load error.

BUT....

Now I have another problem! When I go into virtual DJ and search for this song, I get like 10 hits, when there is only 4 or 5 copies of the song on my hard drive.

Virtual DJ is finding more copies of the song on my hard drive than actually exist, ALSO the number of times its finding it is actually increasing every time I close down VD and open it again and search for the song again!!

Can anyone shed any light on this???

Thanks..

If you get 'Error' when trying to load a song, then it means that the song in your database is no-longer valid. This is usually caused by either moving, renaming or deleting the song outside of VirtualDJ, so the entry in its database no-longer points to a valid file.

To fix this problem, use VirtualDJ to browse to the drive(s)/folder(s) where your music is located, right-click on them and choose Add to search DB.

Once you have done this, go to CONFIG -> Browser, choose each drive in turn where you have music stored and click on CHECK.

If any problems are found, click on FIX.

You can remove the old redundant database entries by clicking on CLEAN.

NOTE: To avoid this problem in future, make sure that you do not move or rename songs outside of VirtualDJ. Use the browser in VirtualDJ itself to perform these operations. This will ensure that the database is updated appropriately.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I do not remember moving anything outside Virtual DJ as I am aware this is not a good idea.

I will try the steps you have recommended and see how I get on.

Many thanks.

Ahh, problem I had been having as well. Now sorted thanks.

I wish VDJ team could implement drag and drop like in windows explorer. It is very time consuming to move files in VDJ as it does not remember the last folder you use; you have to navigate to the folders each time to copy or move a song.

Holding down the CTRL button will allow you to move files to folders by drag n dropping them. Notice the different mouser pointer when you move a song holding down the CTRL button.

Thank you very much DJdad. I guess I should read the manual before posting my gripes..lol. This will save me a lot of time. VDJ is very similar to my personal thinking; we both have little to no limits. Thanks again. By the way when are we getting a 4 deck skin for the Plasma skin. I am now using the scratch skin for 4 decks with the ns6. I previously used the Plasma skin for all my mixing with 2 decks. Thanks for everything.

Unfortunatly no information given in this thread has helped my problem.

I have 5 copies of a song on my hard drive. I know this because I search for the song using windows browser and get 5 hits.

When using Virtual DJ, it finds 13 copies!! Why!

I have cleaned, fixed and checked everything that I can clean fix and check but it has made no difference whatsoever.

More Information: When I right click on one of the copies of the song after virtual dj finds them, and then click on "File Info" - for 8 of the copies of the song, in the "Filename" box, it says "df1", "df2", "df3" all the way to "df8", with the 5 remaining copies displaying the proper name of the song in the same "Filename" box.

The 5 copies displaying the proper filename I assume corresponds to the 5 actual copies of the song on my hard drive.

Update: I deleted the xml file on my hard drive and loaded up virtual dj again, then re added the hard drive to the search db - starting from scratch basically. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM of virtual dj finding the duplicate files. I would rather not have to do this though as I have quite a lot of favourite folders, and also, I would like to know what's actually causing the problem.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Note: Virtual DJ finds files in the recycle bin. This was the location of my "duplicate files".
