Atomix Productions is really happy to welcome Pangolin among new VirtualDJ plugins developers. They now bring their experience and knowledge in the laser light show and text messaging field to create new plugins for VirtualDJ and offer you a new way to use your software during video events. They have already made 2 plugins, Essential Visuals and Essential Flash and we hope new ones will follow. PangolinPlugins wrote : Hello everybody, My name is William Benner and I am President of Pangolin Laser Systems and Pangolin SMS. For those of you who have never heard of Pangolin, we are a world leader in the field of laser light show and text messaging software. Some of you might have ran across our Essential Visuals plug-in for Virtual DJ, which will allow you to easily to scrolling text, non-moving text, animated bitmaps (including animated GIF files), text-to-screen and even SMS voting really easily, and right from within Virtual DJ. You can learn more about that plug-in here: http://www.pangolinplugins.com/pages/products/essential-visuals.php Well, as some of you noticed in the demo video for Essential Visuals, we also have a FLASH player plugin for Virtual DJ, called Essential Flash, and you can learn about that here: http://www.pangolinplugins.com/pages/products/essential-flash.php As far as we know, this plugin provides the only NATIVE (i.e. direct) way of playing Adobe FLASH files in Virtual DJ. The plugin supports not only SWF files but also FLV (Flash Video) as well. And to add icing on the cake, it supports variable transparency of FLASH as well as alpha blending. Check it out and let us know what you think. In the mean time, if you want to know more, please feel free to contact us directly. The absolute best way is to use our contact form at www.pangolin.com/contact Best regards, William Benner You can now download these plugins on the VirtualDJ website: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/12973/Essential_Visuals.html http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/12968/Essential_Flash.html As usual, feel free to add your comments in the plugins forum: http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/14/VirtualDJ_Plugins.html |

thetracker510 wrote : yeah...and who posted about it first?....you're all welcomed....;-) There was discussion about it prior to that ;) As for Mac compatibility, that is a question that only Pangolin can answer. It is however no small task as I've recently discovered with my ScrollText port. In fact one of what I assumed would be the hardest parts was relatively simple and vice-versa! |

WellI'm glad you got that together Scott...and Milkdrops not far behind? |
|
Wow!! I love these plugins! And now I can text to screen, life is good! Don't sleep on these........ Huey |

I have allready tryed theese plugins, and i have to tell you. Simple, good looking, just great. Worth to try, belive me. Regards Tomas |

Thank you Atomix, we are truely happy to be here :) The flexibility you allow for plugin development is outstanding and I have not found anything that even comes close to that. We can go a very long way with this. As for mac development it depends on sales more or less on the PC side. For Milkdrop like support, the parameters for this are built into the Essential Flash plugin. Sound samples are already passed to an SWF that is designed to receive them. One thing is, I am still massaging the sound samples for this to make it as easy as possible to develop this in Flash. There are other parameters I will probably send to flash in support of this as well. I hope to have some samples of this soon and will probably start a new thread on this as well as put up a beta version so we can all test this out. Thanks Everyone Don |

I'm a little confused as to what these plugins offer (the free versions) both Pangolin and the firetext offerings. Do the free plugins enable sms messages to be received and shown on screen, or do we need to spend huge sums of money (several hundreds of dollars) for that functionality? I don't want to record phone numbers for a marketing database, or create polls, I would love customers to be able to text in requests and dedications. It would be great to see VDJ or at least the VDJ community develop some basic sms to screen functionality as a free plugin. |

Nitebeat...I agree. It all seems a little bit confusing!!! Seems to me that the pangolin plugin (I'm working on it just now) is similar to the FT plugin, in that it gives you limited functionality with things like a slideshow and messages TO your crowd, as opposed to messages FROM your crowd. Both plugins are 'free' but to get the full functionality of them you have to buy the actual programs themselves. Maybe i've missed something but that's my understanding. Perhaps someone could clarify? Being a mobile jock, i am in the same kind of position. This is a great toy for resident guys who play to hundreds of people in the same places every night, but for those of us who are on the road more often than resident, text to screen isn't in such a big demand, if at all. Don't get me wrong, i do res nights twice a week but even then it's only a small place. I'm kind of opposite to you though...i WOULD like to be able to build up a phone number database more than the text to screen thing (but the text to screen thing is VERY cool!!!). Seems to me that the most basic version of firetext is the same price as the basic version of IMU...about $250/£150 (approx), but the IMU basic functionality seems wider compared to basic firetext. Of course perhaps Tayla would like to chip in here as he is the man who brought us Firetext in the first place...long before Pangolin came along...no offence intended Pangolin...:o) I also suppose now that Pangolin have come along both they and Firetext will be competing for our business. It's only natural that somebody at some point will be offering a price deal of some sort at some point. In my street there are two petrol stations...directly accross the road from one another. One is ALWAYS £0.01 cheaper than the other for a litre of fuel...guess who gets the most business??? ;o) It doesn't matter the difference...the product is still the same. Thesedays people will do anything to avoid high costs! With the speed at which VDJ has been moving recently i wouldn't be surprised to see full blown native text to screen plugin of some sort in the future. Of course, that's just my humble opinion....:o) Cheers...and keep spinnin'...(",) P |

So has anybody sussed Pangolin Essential Visuals yet? I've downloaded the plugin, got a demo licence, downloaded phone software and hooked my phone up to my computer. I'm running VDJ and IMU software but I keep getting an error message in the system log..."Error during reading of messages from default memory". Doesn't seem to be anything online and i'm not sure there's UK support so the Floridans will be in their bed and i'm not calling to waken them...;o) I've tried a different memory card in my phone but that doesn't seem to have any different effects....anyone? Cheers...keep spinnin'...(",) P |

I'm also getting the following message in my Log file: "Partially received packet from VirtualDJ client (declared size XXXXX), canceling" ??? :o| |

You moblie guys need things like this. Think about this, your doing a wedding, you can use the flash plugin to have an animated logo playing or the brides and grooms photos, nice touch. Now for the text messaging, while the photos are playing with the animated logo spinning around people are texting their congrats to the screen all while your recording a dvd. How happy would the bride be to recive that dvd?? I would say very happy...................I know cause thats what Ive done. Theres alot more to what you can do with text but I cant give you all the answers......... Pionara wrote : full blown native text to screen plugin of some sort in the future. Thats what the IMU plugin is................ As far as your problem just connect them, they are great people and will get you sorted. I'm sure its a minor thing. My IMU runs FLAWLESSLY........... Hope that cleared somethings up Huey P.S. Pionara wrote : Of course perhaps Tayla would like to chip in here as he is the man who brought us Firetext in the first place...long before Pangolin came along...no offence intended Pangolin...:o) Wrong, Pangolin's been around longer then them, just not as a VDJ plugin........... |

Huey Thanks for the input. I'm not sure what the demand is like for video DJ'ing (certainly at a wedding) in the States but i've not seen much call for it here in the UK. However, perhaps it's an avenue i would look to go down in the future...:o) As for contacting Pangolin, i need to wait until they're open!!! :o) And yes, Pangolin have been around longer...for some years longer if i've read correctly, but certainly from a VDJ point of view Tayla was the main man for text to screen as far as i was concerned...:o) Cheers...and keep spinnin'...(",) P |

nitebeat, Pionara, both of the downloads are demo versions of the products and both need to be purchased. For IMU and Essential Visuals, this turns on the SMS messaging. The package price for these is 249.00 US which for what you get is a very good price. For Essential Flash you get a fully functional plugin but it displays a image every so often. The price for this is 49.99 US and currently there is no other plugin like this that runs natively in VDJ or supports SWF files as well. It doesn't take long to compare what others might be providing and what pangolin provides. We believe our feature set is much higher than the rest for the functions they perform. In order to develop plugins that are of higher quality and have more and unique features, we have to charge for them. There was about a year of research and development that went into both Essential Visuals and Essential Flash. I am in Florida but I am up sometimes all nite, sometimes all day, sometimes all day and all nite haha... I am quick to respond. If you ever have any problems, just want to say hi, or whatever you can email me: donmoir 'at' comcast 'dot' net I have said this a couple times in other words, but if you are happy with the free plugins you have now, then go for it. If you want a whole lot more, then these are costly to develop and NOONE is going to do develop plugins that go beyond some simple behavior for free. For example, no one has yet provided for animated gif's, mixed text and images, among other things in VDJ as far as I know. Essential Visuals does this everywhere with no problem. There is no support for even simple things like smileys except in Essential Visuals. There is no native flash plugin for VDJ except Essential Flash. Why ? Apparently no one esle was able to overcome the technical problems with Flash in VDJ. These things take alot of time as mentioned. We can take this places like you have never seen before but again it depends on the support of the community here. It's not just SMS or Flash mind you. Don |
