Topic: Audio 8 and DJM 800: digital or RCA out?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey all, the new club I'm playing at has 2 DVJs and a Pioneer DJM 800. I'm using the audio 8 as an ASIO sound card (as well as to MIDI map the mixer). What is the audible difference in using digital inputs and outputs as opposed to regular analog RCA? Will timecode work with digital connects just as well (or better) as it would with RCA?

I've been using this software for years, and consider myself a very technically competent DJ though timecode is new for me. I guess this is a bit of a noob question, sorry for dumbing myself down. I'm sure a simple answer is all that is necessary.

Thanks

Does the Audio 8 have digital(spdif) in and out?
It would not matter much for timecode ins/out

It might decrease latency a bit because there is no D/A conversion being done from the CD Player to the Computer
but in some designs this might not be true I have seen a design where it's converted to analog then converted again for spdif... kinda dumb

This is something cool I used to do with the DJM 800s

I hook the Digitals Directly to the Mixer 1/2
then I connect the analog my sound-card then to 1/2 line/cd in
now you don't need splitter to go back and forth from CD to Audio

Yes, SPDIF on DVJs, Audio 8, and DJM 800. I'd imagine sound quality might be raised a bit too?

I also have an Audio 8 DJ and can you please point out to me where the digital outs are on that card? I see RCA, midi and XLR.

I can't see any digital input in my audio8dj ....I think you are confused about it

Whatever you do, DON'T MIDI-map your EQ's and faders to control Virtual DJ's internal mixer.

No no, only the crossfader for video.

I've embarrassed myself enough in this post...I apologize. You're right. I think what threw me off was the black and yellow RCA inputs as opposed to the traditional red and white.

I'm a moron, and sorry for wasting everybody's time.
