Topic: How do I configure VDJ 6.0.1 MAC + Gemini PS-626USB mixer? Sound-card needed? Help please.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi guys

I'm old fashioned! Took me years to accept that CD's could be used instead of vinyl. I now find myself needing to learn laptop mixing - cheap tunage, easier getting tunes to gigs etc. Will always prefer the touch, feel and the fact that more skill is needed to use vinyl when conjuring beats.

I've just bought the above Gemini mixer as I liked the idea that it has a USB port so can record mixes pretty easily. I'm struggling to see any other advanatges of the USB port however?! Anyone have the same mixer?

My question is this...

Whats the easiest and cheapest way to hook up an external mixer to a macbook pro & VDJ? Can any mixer be used? I'm assuming a sound card with stereo inputs & head-phone inputs (to monitor) will be needed. Any recomendations on sound card? Cheap please, bit not sacrificing sound quality.

I just want to be able to use an external mixer (PS-626USB) to control VDJ!! Plugging laptop directly into mixer with no sound-card means that you can't monitor using headphones, which defeats the object of mixing for the masses!

Sorry if similar posts are on here.

Try the USB directly to the laptop first running VDJ.

If that doesn't work, you might need something like a Maya 44; but post results of your progress first.

Sorted!

Plugging the mixer directly into the laptop using the single USB means you can only use one channel. You need to use at least 2 in order to mix. Can't cue either.

Bought the Numark DJ IO which splits the MAC's 2.1 sound output to 4.1 so can use two channels. Can also cue as can use the mixer as you would CDJs or vinyl decks.

I'm bangin out tunes with ease now.
