Topic: Which ExpressCard is best for VDJ?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi

Am getting rid of my usb external sound card, had it a while and its causing problems.

Ive seen the indigo djx and creative x-fi cards online, and just wondering which one people think is better for vdj quality wise.

Any other reccomendations if youve got?

Cheers

Creative X-Fi has only 1 stereo out. For VDJ you need at least 2 stereo outs. Indigo DJx has 2 stereo outs and 8 virtual outs so you can run more applications at the same time. I have Indigo DJx and it does the job well.

yeah i saw the two stereo outs, one obviously for headphone, one to mixer?

Whats with the virtual outputs thing? Im not seeing how thats useful or where it would be used?

The X-fi will work fine. One stereo output is fine, you can just use splitters. No need to DJ in dolby 5.1 surround sound. You havent got many options that I am aware of at the moment. Ideally you want to find a card with native asio drivers for better latency. For this card though you can use the generic asio 2 for all drivers which are downloadable.

I use the older brother version before the express card slot came out which is asio 2, i guess i'm lucky. Don't ask me why they didnt do the same for the xi-fi.

My recommendation is to stay away from usb connected cards... my personal opinion is that the usb connection is too loose and it sometimes looses it connection. The Echo Indigo DJx (Just looked at now) seems like a logical choice as recommended DJFilosoff.

Note because there isn't any inputs your pretty much only limited to usb controllers. If your packing some turntables and using timecoded cds/vinyl or possibly thinking of in future, go for something with more inputs.

I've been using the Creative X-Fi for a few years now, I've always gotten great sound out of it without any problems. I'm not sure about your brand of pc Chrisriddell, but I purchased a dongle from Dell for mine which gives two stereo outs. It's been a few years, so availability might be more widespread now.

well I can't relate to express-card but I have been using the PCMCIA version of the Indigo card and it's worked great. it has 2 outputs but also comes with software that gives it "virtual outputs" letting you route more then 1 audio software into the outputs
