Hello folks,
How can we use an itunes library located on an external hard drive ?
Seems that there is no option in vdj to point to an itunes library.
Currently I found out this sollution:
1)I created an iTunes folder in the Music folder of Vista
2)Copied all the files from the external hard drive that whe realy need (I think) as iTunesLibrary.itl, iTunes Music Library.xml and the extras en genuis files.
3)Now we have to edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file. Open it with notepad++ for best performance, mine is 15mb! Then you will have this line(s) in the xml file: file://localhost/root/music/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/ for example. This could be because you took a back up of the whole itunes folder to an external hard drive when migrating to a new pc for example or just like me having an master copy and a second one if I need it on a gig and I'm not using my pc. No time to copy 40Gb of data. So now whe just have to find and replace a piece of text. For me it was the string root/music that I replaced with G: this beeing the drive where the iTunes folder is. In notepad++ you can do ctrl+h to perform a find and replace.
4) What happens now ? Vdj will find a iTunes folder in the music folder with a library xml. Good, best part is that this library point to files located on an external harddrive, and vdj has no clue about it. Finding files is less quicker then before as you have access these files via usb or other way.
I hope this helps folks.
If there any questions I'm here.

The only solution for the moment is to modify the path in the Windows registry.
Use Registry Tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html

That's indeed also a nice sollution and combined with my part about changing the path to a file in the iTunes xml files makes it an excelent combo to use a backup of you library with someones elses computer.
