Guys,
I am wondering what you use to convert the video (Vga in my case) coming out of your laptop/pc to your projector/tv. Right now I am just using the vga out port on my laptop to an lcd projector.
This works well, but I am looking for a box that can convert that signal to other formats in case I go somewhere and need to output to tv's, etc. I also do not want to wear out the vga out port on my laptop.
It would be nice to have a box that outputs to vga, RCA, and s-video (maybe even hdmi?). I know there are vga converter cables that you can use which have a bunch of different format wires on the other end, but a box that would fool the laptop into thinking it is hooked up to a tv/projector would be nice.
If you guys know of any plz chime in. Thanks.

my video card on my pc (and indeed my old laptop) has a converter built in.
look for a yellow socket somewhere near the vga port...
As for the Projector, keep using the VGA, as this will give the best picture quality over S-Video or Composite.

marksmolinski,
My laptop does not have that yellow connector. I wish it did, as it would have come in handy at a gig I did some time ago in which I also needed to output to a tv.
I will keep using VGA output but need the option to use composite and s-video open to me in case I need it. Also, the ability to fool the laptop into thinking that it is hooked up to a video output would be nice.

i bought a pc to tv converter on ebay for about $30 shipped and it works great when i need it and also has pass through so you can run your lcd monitor as your booth monitor without needing to split the signal. mine has vga in vga pass through, s-vdieo and composit video out as well as fully adjustable for picture size and poition right on the converter. go to ebay and search for this: PC Notebook VGA to AV S-Video TV Converter Switch Box theres tons aon there new cheap.

Looks like the same one I use as well... had it a few years now, don't know if they still sell that particular one in Maplins or not...
I prefer using a convertor than relying on the comp/s video output on the card anyway, simply because most video cards have an annoying tendency to not activate the output unless they detect a TV/projector connected to the socket when you boot the computer. If you boot up before you plug your telly in, the socket won't work. With a convertor box, it's always ready to go without the need to reboot or mess around with your graphics settings.

Mike,
Thanks for the suggestion but the one you pictured has svideo and composite video Inputs, not outputs. I need something with composite, s-video, and vga outputs. Thanks anyhow.
This looks like it:

DJSherz,
I completely agree. Those were also reasons why I want one of these converters.

Thanks. Yes,I was looking for a converter that can do exactly that but I cannot find any reviews on that specific one. It looks like a weird design too. The price also seems high ($120.00usd). I will keep looking around.

No its the other way, then I use this one. I connect the vga connector to the converter (red socket) vga input and on the side I can choice if I want use the RGB Out, S-VHS Out or Videocomposite Out. For a second VGA Monitor the Cable his Y with a Blue Connector for the second Monitor.
It's a little bit different from the US Version. But I can also select if I want use PAL or NTSC Signal
