Topic: Newb Questions: Headphone cuing and Playlists?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Sorry if these questions have been addressed elsewhere or in a FAQ.

I've been checking out the trial version of Virtual DJ and its been a blast.

I'm not a DJ but I'm often called upon to play tunes for events for parties and such.

I have two questions:

#1 Is there anyway to set up Virtual DJ so that I can cue songs and listen to tracks on one channel without the main channel being interrupted. Quite simply, I just want to listen to a track on the other channel while playing something on the other. Do I need some console with an external sound-card to do this or can I somehow use what I've got: A laptop with a single audio output.

#2 Is there anyway to set up a simple playlist of songs on one of the channels so that I can just use Virtual DJ as a juke-box player. For example, I'd like to be able to beat-mix songs for a while, cross-fading from from channel to the other and then, just play some songs in a row the way I would in a normal playlist using Winamp or VLC or something. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hy driftwork,

#1) It is possible. It's just an adjustment in the soundcard area (Config) You need a second soundcard.
#2) Also possible, called Automix with a playlist from your choice.
This function is located in the browser area on the right side! Move your mouse into this area and the automix windows comes.

Or a 5.1 soundcard (as it has two stereo outputs).

Can I use some sort of simple USB sound-card.

Seems like there are some that are about the size of USB Flash RAM drives.

Is that what I should be looking for or is there some other option?

Can anyone recommend a fairly good quality USB external sound card.

Anything by Creative perhaps?

m-audio fast track usb

I use the Numark DJIO and has been good to me about $80-100 if you shop

or

You can also buy a one channel stero card from creative and use that along with your laptops internal card. (It works but is not the best)

I use the m-audio conectiv, really good quality.
But my guys loves the new Audio 4 DJ, the little brother of Audio 8 DJ.
Both should cost nearly the same.

It's always up to your moneybox and needs.

The most Pro's i know, in our froum, use the Audio8 or the Hammerfall RME HDSP RPM with Expresscard.
Have fun
