Well its here and I have to say I'm quite impressed with the macbook pro just opening the box is quite and experience in itself. Right now I'm quite pleased with it. Installed VDJ, Firefox, Thunderbird and mercury messenger so far. Testing out the beta of vdj mac right now. This is the box for the MBP compared to other laptops I've owned this box is quite small.
I have to hand it to Apple with its outstanding packaging. Its all about the details.
The MBP pro looks both ways and emerges from its Styrofoam packing
Its alive you can see my old beat down dell next to, the MBP looks great and its ready for its first test drive.

Well I finally did it, something I said I would never do. I got my first Macbook Pro, not the stripped down one either. Its set to be here by the 5th of December. Its the 17 inch 2.6 ghz model like this one.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7c/MacBook_Pro_17.jpg/747px-MacBook_Pro_17.jpg
Note I would not of even remotely considered a Mac without the possibility of running windows. As an experienced windows user in both xp and vista. I'll blog my experience with this new machine. Everything from learning the latest osx to installing windows and last but not least Virtualdj with it. I'm sure this will be a fun ride.

So one day you're just chilling on the counch and suddenly your wife tells you "hey the sink isn't draining anymore"Your response, you go to the store buy some draino and call it a day. Sink is unclogged yay. But wait, your outside minding your own business and then you hear a stange noise coming from the basement you know the kind of noise that sounds like water being poured on top of concrete the wasing machine is no longer draining and is dumping water all over the basement floor. Whoo hoo what to do now, 2 bottles of draino later. Low and behold its still not draining. Solution rip out the sink drain and snake the pipe and pray. It just so happens in this house the washer and sink share the same drain. Gee I wonder why its clogged up. Even worse those drains that share are not vented to outside air at and these pipes are old as the house (90 years)
So a few hours later the repair looked like this.
Its not permanent by any means I'll end up re-doing it when we rip out the kitchen later on next year. I just had to share the story.

As seen in the previous photo's we decided to Re-finish the floors in the downstairs of our new house. I have to warn everyone thinking about doing this to their own house its a ton of work, however for us the payoff was great. Here's a few pictures of the journey to floor bliss.Step One
Rent this big ass heavy sander and buy a ton of sandpaper and let this thing drag you around for days.
As you can see even though the floors looked level they were indeed not ever close by any sense of the word. This is what the floor looked like after 2 complete sandings with 36 grit sandpaper. We then did 2 more passes with 50 grit and 2 more with 80, and then 100 by hand with an orbital palm sander
Here's what they look like now with 3 coats of poly on the floors they look brand new again. The floors are maple which is a light color that goes great with the oak baseboards and window trim.
Even though it was a ton of work and I couldn't feel my arms for a week afterwords I'd have to say the pay off is great. I like these floors so much we decided to redo the floors in my office upstairs which are pine.
All in all the floors in this house ae in great shape now and we are glad we put the effort into making them look new again.

So there I was just minding my own business. When my wife and I thought that is would be a good idea to move a doorway in the house over a few feet. Little did we know what we were in for.
Simple eh looks just like we need to add a little drywall and we'd be done.....nope its hard to see in the picture but there are two water lines that we had to cut running straight through the doorway that go to the upstairs bathroom.
Here we see the bathroom in its orginal state. Remember those water lines? You guess it located in the floor the whole thing had to come out.
Yep just like that, now where is my hammer?
Yep Found it.
Far out man!
Here we see the bathroom in its current state of complete disarray. Stay tuned!

Did I mention I really hate carpet? Well I really do when it covers up floors like these that are 1" thick. We think they are maple. I guess I'll find out when I get the big sander for them next week.
And this is what was under that ugly blue carpet.
whoever decided drop celings were a good idea should be shot, a couple of times. This is a shot of the begining demo on that horrible ugly celing tile.

alright mod timeI have an old dj console just laying around the play a cue buttons don't work anymore on it, so I decided to gut this thing and make it of some use to me. I was looking to find a way to mount another crossfader below the real audio one so I can have control of the video fade via midi. The whole thing took about a nights work. it looks like this.

I've been pretty busy lately I always make time to come here and help other users but this is the busy time for me. Which I consider to be a good thing. The new system is holding up well and I'm very pleased with the success I've been having with it and vdj. I've also been working on a little side project of sorts you guys can check it out www.djcyder.com its a small community of some of my closest freinds in the industry.Fri 29 Apr 05 @ 8:32 pm
