Editor: do not delete or make any changes to existing posts, unless you first make a note of proposed changes in Red. Additions (completely new Q: & A: do not need to be in red. thanx

Q:: How do I record my mix using an external mixer and VDJ?
Q:: How do I record while using my external mixer using the record function and not hear both tracks overlapping?
A:: VDJ has the option to record from the "line in" of your soundcard. Connect your external mixer to the "line in" of your sound card using RCA to stereo 1/8" cord.
A:: It is only possible to record properly in an external mixer setup by running a cable from the REC OUT of the mixer. BOOTH OUT should also work OK (Make sure that you set the booth output level appropriately because this will effect the recording level.)

Without doing the above, you cannot record in an external mixer setup without hearing your pre-listening in the recording. VirtualDJ has no way of knowing what you are doing with your external mixer. As far as its concerned, both volume sliders are up and the crossfader is in the middle, so it records both.

Q:: whenever I try to record or broadcast it comes up with cant open mp3 encoder
A:: To record, you need to have the Lame mp3 encoder in the Virtual DJ program file folder.
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?lame_enc
Download and unzip in the VDJ folder located at either c:\programfiles\virtualdj for version 4.3 nad below or my documents\virtualdj for version 5 and up.

Q:: How do I get the Windows Crash Report?
A:: With windows XP
Click on Start
Go to "Run"
Write "eventvwr.exe"
Click on "Application"
In the column "Source", look for "Application Error"
then right click and select properties
In the description, it will be written if it's "virtualdj.exe" or not

Q:: How do you Record Video using the internal video recorder?
A:: How To: Recording Video's using VDJ's Internal Recorder

Q:: Could you please provide the link(s) for the correct VC++ for your plugins?

A:: If you install this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en
Then this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en
That should cover your C++ runtime requirements for any of my plugins.

Q::What does the "Check" & "Clean" of the hard drives do?

A:: Check - validates your database entries against your drives. If there is a reference to a file in the database but VirtualDJ can not find the file then it is flagged.

Clean - takes all the 'flagged' entries from running the Check and removes those entries from your database(s).
====================================================================================

Q:: Will VDJ will eventually get support for USB microphones?

A:: External microphones (at this moment) are not integrated with VDJ but their are work arounds.
Windows does have a microphone input that can be routed to the output of the soundcard..
Also some VDJ skins have a direct volume control of the soundcards mic input.
see:
http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/TearEmUp/blogs/3798/How_to_configure_VirtualDJ_to_broadcast_with_a_microphone__.html
on how too set it up.

Q:: How do I convert VGA to S-video? (RCA, composite, etc)
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/125389/Experienced_Members_Forum/Video_-_First_Attempt___Observations.html
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/127798/General_Discussion/Video___tv_hookup.html
A:: You need a converter box..
one example is http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1430
Their are many types and prices, so it really depends on your needs, and how many times you will use it..
====================================================================================

Q:: Video Freeze?
My computer sometimes freezes or have a few hours doent fully load the video.

A:: Are you using Windows 64bit & 1 gig video card or larger?
then;
1.) update VDJ to 6.07 or newer
2.) download the Registry tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html
3.) set "VideoMemMaxUse=512"

Q:: I have been using VDJ with windows 7 64 bit and it is very irritating when it will not allow windows to release pop up windows. Won't allow the windows to close after clicking ok or the x button. It is like somehow after the window pops up and you make your selection the window should close and dissapear but instead it just sits their and no way to close it and get it to dissapear off the screen unless you shut down VDJ. Any one know why this happens and if their is a fix for it???

A:: I think I've found a fix for this problem on Windows 7.
Go to Control panel, Appearance and personalisation, click on personalisation, then scroll down to windows 7 basic. This switches off the areo system.
I've been running it for 2 hours with no stuck windows while using MSN, Firefox, IE8, and explorer folders open.
Worth a try!
I notice on Vista, It automatically resorts to Vista basic whe the desktop is extended, Perhaps Windows 7 doesn't do this and could be the problem

Q:: But since i have been using the F drive for so long, when i use the C drive for DJing, the F drive files still show up in my searches. They do up as a file that doe not exist, but still shows up.
How do i select to search only C drive? if there is any way i could select to search only the C drive versus having to delete any history, that would be prefered.

A:: Connect the F: drive

right click on the drive and choose "Remove From Search DB"

Also go to "Config" :: "Browser" tab.. at the bottom is the Database info

go thru the drives and select "check"
**note: external drives must be connected to do a check or clean**
====================================================================================

Q:: Where are my cue points stored? or I lost my cue points, where did they go?

A:: VDJ stores all the information it collects in .XML databases..
If you also use an external or secondary drive to store your music, a database will ALSO be placed there..
Before making any major changes you should backup those databases..
The first one (on a windows computer) is located in your "documents/virtual dj " folder
called "VirtualDJ Database v6.xml"

The second database will be located on the secondary/external drive on the top level or 'root level'.
called "VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml" (IE: if your external drive is called F:\ , if you open the F: drive the "local" database should be visible)

VDJ stores information for each song and relates it to name of the file AND THE PATH!!!
this is very important..
If the original path to a song was F:\My Music\Rock\Kiss - Beth.mp3
and you change the path too F:\Music\Rock\Kiss - Beth.mp3
ALL the songs in the "music" folder will lose their information!

If you need to move or copy songs to a different location, you need to do this within VDJ..
IE: select the songs in the VDJ browser. 'right click' and select 'File operations'::'Move to' or 'Copy to'
this will automatically update the databases..

using explorer (or some other program) to move or copy or rename files means VDJ will lose track of those files and all information related to it.
making an EXACT copy/backup of an external drive is ok (the one exemption), as the original file path stays intact..

Q:: How do I use 'Cue Points' with the Automix?

A:: The linked thread has some great details
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/130910/Wishes_and_new_features/AutoPlay_with_cuepoints.html

In the VDJ User guide
http://www.virtualdj.com/images/pdf/VirtualDJ6-UserGuide.pdf
Starting on page 15, the manual gives a great overview of how to setup Automix, and how to set the MIX POINTS of each song.

When you engage the "smart" setting of Automix, you can set/use 3 different IN and OUT mix points for the 3 different mix modes - Tempo, Fade, and Cut. Each mix mode has its own mix points (ie: each mode retains its own set of cue points)

====================================================================================

Q::For some reason....after I search a song then move it over o the right side for auto play....
As soon as I do a new search...the songs on the right side (auto play disappear)
Any ideas?

A:: Post your question in the forum.. This wiki page is just a collection of questions I have seen multiple times and their possible answers.
====================================================================================
====================================================================================

Q:: How can I find my posts? How can I find threads I have posted in?

A:: try using google - type this into google:

yourusername site:virtualdj.com/forums
====================================================================================

Q:: How do I make a backup of my music?

A:: If its an external hard drive:

Windows Robocopy can be used to do this for free,
e.g: robocopy e:\ f:\ /s (Will sync files from source drive E: to destination F: but not delete any files that no-longer exist on the source drive.)
robocopy e:\ f:\ /mir (Will mirror files from source drive E: to destination F:, deleting any files on F: that do not exist on the source E:)
Make sure VirtualDJ is closed when doing this.

**NOTE**
For external hard drives, the drive letter in the database does not matter, providing that the paths and file names are the same on both drives.
Drive letter is only important for songs on the internal hard disk in your computer (Usually C:) and for playlists which are drive/path specific.
