First of all, Hello! I DLed the Home version and I've been playing around with it and getting accustomed to the controls, and I have to say I like the program and appreciate that there is a free version.

I am a teacher and because of DJ experience back in college, I get roped into djing school dances. My first question is about commercial use... Do you consider this as commercial use? I planned on using virtual DJ for the first time in about a month at a middle school dance but wanted to check on it first. I do not get paid for the work (other than normal salary being a teacher at the school).

Second question... after reading the FAQs I saw it is is possible to get a USB sound card for my computer and use that for headphone cueing/ previewing, but that without a paid version I cannot set up an external DJ mixer and run virtual DJ into separate channels (left side to channel 1, right side to channel 2). Would there be a problem with running the master output to channel 1 and the headphone output to channel 2 and then setting the VDJ crossfader to play channel 1 only while setting the PFL to playing channel 2 only? I would still be controlling pitch and such with the on screen controls, but all mixing/fading would be done at the external mixer.

Thanks for taking the time to read! All advise is appreciated.

Hello, the VDJ Home Edition is like it says for HOME use only... So you can/should only use this at home in your bedroom or living room...
If you want to use VDJ at a gig or at school dances, partys, whatever, you should/have to use VDJ Pro...

It's not because you are not getting paid that it's not considered commercial use.

Well, to be honest, that's not what I expected to hear and its very unfortunate if its true. Here is an excerpt from the EULA I read and agreed to before installing the software:

"- It does not give you the right to use the software for any commercial use (commercial use means you are getting paid or compensated for an activity that involves using the software)."

So, here, it would seem that volunteering at a school using my personal computer would be within EULA guidelines. If virtual DJ is in agreement with the previous poster, I will be happy to uninstall the software, I want to keep everything legit.

After reading what you said, i'm starting to wonder what is considered commercial use...
My opinion is, iit's commercial use when you use the program to perform for a number of people, like in schools, gigs etc... I don't know if it matters if you are getting paid or not.
I could be wrong, but I think if you would perform for thousands of people at let us say Love Parade and you say I don't mind to NOT get paid, this is also commercial use...
But again I could be wrong, I didn't make the program nor the EULA, I just follow my feeling on this...

I'd be happy to hear from someone who knows the truth :))

Well, I ended up just buying a Numark controller that comes bundled with VDJ LE.

Then you should register the serial number that came with it here on the site...
You will be able to download the latset version for your LE edition, and also will be able to download the software again later if you buy a new computer and you have lost the serial... Nothing but advances :)

Cool, thanks for the tips, I'll definitely do that when I get it in the mail.

LOL!
You won't. The serial is printed on the sleeve that contains the CD with VDJ.

Just got it in the mail. I just bought a cheap controller, but so far it seems to have the capability for what I need ATM.

I'm not sure I really understand the previous comment, but under "my downloads" in my profile, it does list my CD key and gives me the option to DL VDJ lite. If that's what he meant... I don't know...
